Nationally, February is celebrated as CTE Month. To honor our great CTE teachers, we spotlighted one CTE teacher from each Sumner County high school. Please check out their information in the photos below.

Engineering students from Hendersonville HS have made national news the past couple of months after creating a 3d-printed hand for a classmate. Taught by Jeff Wilkins, the HHS students have been featured on the CBS Evening News, the Drew Barrymore Show, the Washington Post, People, and News Channel 5, just to name a few. Clips from a couple of the segments can be seen below.

Station Camp FFA Officers traveled to City Hall where Mayor Brown signed a proclamation declaring National FFA Week the week of February 18-25, 2023. She also took time to talk with students about the impact FFA has had on them and their future plans.

Katelyn Wenzel will represent Hendersonville FFA as a State Finalist in Creed Speaking at the State Convention in March. She placed first at the district, sectionals, and regional levels. Katelyn will be one of only six students in Tennessee to compete at State in this event.

Gallatin High School FFA students were able to donate over 30 tie-dyed blankets to children in need.

On February 13, WHHS STEM toured and learned about North American Stamping Group in Portland, one of their CTE business partners. This was a great opportunity for their students to learn about jobs and see how what is learned in the classroom can be applied to many aspects of industry.

Beech High School student Bryce Morrow took home the Best in Design award for designing and building an electric vehicle. He won a Chick-fil-A gift card for his efforts!

HHS now has 12 Health Science students who are officially Certified Nursing Assistants! These students worked hard all semester and completed 46 hours at NHC Place-Sumner. All students have worked to take care of patients with various conditions from dementia, strokes, and falls. They did an amazing job of providing great care to these individuals. To explore the eye, PHS Diagnostic Medicine classes utilized their new Anatomage table and practiced using different types of eye charts to test vision, color blindness, near vision acuity, and contrast sensitivity.

Congratulations are in order for all Merrol Hyde Magnet School DECA District Conference

competitors after a great performance. Fifty-one competitors participated in the

Virtual District Career Development Conference in January. Students competed in various

marketing, business, management, and finance categories. This year, students were

placed against all competitors in the state. The following students won first place in their

categories: Caroline LaSuer, Lily Sahihi, and Sophia Zhang. Eleven more students finished in the Top 5 including: Carson Cox, Sally Frank, Cohen Jones, the team of Chandler Baggott and Austin White, Grayson Head, the team of Emma Hozan and Reese Whitley, Mary McIllwain, Alex Linville, and Christian Liwag. All 51 competitors, plus one written event competitor, are advancing to the State Career Development Conference in Chattanooga. Merrol Hyde Magnet School has a total of 52 qualifiers for the Tennessee State Career Development Conference.

These Westmoreland High School students will be competing in the FBLA State Conference in April.
