Raleigh Hills Newsletter
June 11, 2021
Message from Mrs. DeMartino
Dear Raleigh Hills Community,
I can't believe this is the final newsletter for the 20-21 school year! I really want to thank you all for hanging in there with us through distance learning. I know there were a lot of twists and turns. We also had to learn how to do school in a completely different way! Thank you for your partnership, your patience and your grace. Our entire staff felt the support and love coming from the community to us. And we definitely return that love.
We do have some exciting things to look forward to next year. First of all, just the fact that we will be back in person with our entire community is a cause for celebration! Here are some other things to look forward to:
- We will kick off the year with a Week of Welcome! We'll have art projects, special guests and all-school read alouds to make the welcome back extra fun!
- We will be continuing our work to become an anti-racist school. We'll do that through a continued focus on building trusting relationships with our students, challenging ourselves to examine biased practices and celebrating the genius in every student.
- We have a ton of PTO-sponsored events that will be fun for the whole family including a Back-to-School picnic in the fall, bingo nights, parties, dances and our annual Carnival in the spring!
Please have a safe, enjoyable summer and take full advantage of the summer reading programs, the education apps and the bicycle rodeos listed in this edition of the newsletter. Most important, find time to play. We look forward to welcoming you back in the fall!
Warm regards,
Jennifer

Summer Access to Education Apps Like DreamBox & Epic!
You can continue to access the apps that your students have grown to love over this year. We have set up a summer website to help you navigate getting connected. Click here to see all that is in store! When you get there, you will need your username and password so make sure you have those before the last day of school. Your teacher can help you with that.
I know that many students love to read on Epic. You will be able to access all the books for free two hours a week using a parent email and password. This is enough time to do the recommended 20-30 minutes a day! Instructions are here. Families can also pay a subscription to access the full library without limitations. They have a $9.99 three month summer special -- more information here.

Elementary Device Return - Return your tech and get a popsicle!
Elementary students will need to return all school-issued devices (e.g., iPad, Chromebook, charging cord, stylus, Hotspot, etc.) as soon as the school year ends. We have scheduled three Device Drop Off Days at Raleigh Hills for collection. Bring your devices to school and get a free popsicle!! Here's what you do:
- bring your devices and all the cords to the school
- get a ziploc bag from one of the tables
- label the bag with your student's name - one bag for each student
- put each child's devices and cords the bag and set it gently in the bins by the office door
- collect your popsicle!!

Volunteer Update
Happily, we expect to have volunteers back in the building next school year! If you are new to Raleigh Hills, or haven’t signed up yet, please take some time to signup to volunteer. All volunteers must have passed a background check and have an account through myimpactpage.com before volunteering. We expect the approval process to be slower than usual this fall, so don’t wait to sign up! Get approved in the system now, so you’re ready to help out in the classroom, at the Lap-a-thon(!), or other events next year.
Questions? Please contact the volunteer coordinator, Jennifer Rogers at jennifer.rogers15@gmail.com, or another member of the PTO.
