Adventure Awaits
This year Upper Adams Intermediate School is partnering with the YBEC Trails Program. The goal of the program is to give all students the opportunity to grow through the experiences on unique field trips.
The TRAILS Program stands for Teaching, Resilience, Adventure, Independence, Leadership and Stewardship. Students will learn life skills, team building strategies and build confidence they can utilize in everyday life. This program will be used as an incentive for students to do well academically and socially.
The TRAILS PROGRAM currently had their first two trips this year. Our first trip was to Laurel Lake for hiking and paddle boarding. The second adventure was to ShafferTrail Rocks with a short hike and rock climbing. It was a first for many of us. How exciting it is to try new things!
We are looking forward to more exciting adventures ahead of us!
A Little Dirt Never Hurt
A service project headed up by students from Mrs. Carrera’s class is caring for a small area of landscaping outside of the Culinary and Preschool classrooms on the secondary school campus, for which is referred to as the “Preschool Flower Bed”. Over the last three years, students have planted spring bulbs, Daffodils and Iris, and transplanted a few existing plants. Last March, using the classroom grow light garden, students grew Columbines and Coneflowers for which students planted in the flowerbed this past Spring.
In September, students removed the root systems of three mums that were planted last Fall; sadly, these mums did not survive the winter months. Students also pulled a few weeds and raked leaves and twigs. The bed is now ready for three new mums to be planted.
Supporting the annual FFA Mum Sale, Mrs. Carrera’s students selected three mums to purchase ~ red, orange, and purple. Students planted the new mums September 24th. Over the next couple of weeks, students look forward as the new mums fully open to reveal their vibrant colors.
Hoops Above the Rest
Reading, Reading, and More Reading!
Mrs. Pitzer's classroom is full of readers! The students are reading James and the Giant Peach and enjoying peaches as they read.
