DETERMINATION - "Slow and Steady gets you Ready"

Center Stage and Nohl Canyon presented Beauty and Beast Jr. Musical on Thursday and Friday at El Rancho Charter School. Congratulations to all cast members! The exceptional performances highlighted how important the Arts are in schools! Thank you to NCSA, El Rancho Charter, Ms. Tippets, and all the volunteer parents who made the show a success!

Our 46 Finn's Mission Winners were treated to Lunch with the Principal on Friday! Huge THANK YOU to BLAZE PIZZA for sponsoring the pizza!! Kids were treated to pizza, cookies, and capri sun's.. and a little music!

For the 2nd straight year, Nohl Canyon was named the "TOP SCHOOL" in Orange Unified for our fundraising efforts in the Kids Heart Challenge / American Heart Association! Nohl Canyon fundraised $13,700 for AHA!

On Tuesday, OUSD recognized Volunteers from each school site! A Big Thank You to our morning and afternoon Volunteers who help keep our students safe during drop-off and Pick-up!! When you can, give these great volunteers a shout-out as you drive by!!

NCSA will celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, May 1 through May 5. Please view the small blurb from the NCSA Teacher Appreciation Week Coordinators:

Student Council and Nohl Canyon are collecting items to donate to a local Charity - Orangewood Foundation.

Items will be collected during the Month of May and can be dropped off in the office OR next to Room 1.

Reminder to parents, the school side of Nohl Canyon Rd is a No Stopping/No Parking curb. Cars parked or stopped here create a one way only on Nohl Canyon Rd. Please do not pick up or wait for you child in this area. Thank you.

May 8th - 26th, 8:00 am - 10:00 am (testing time)

CAASPP - The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) is the state academic testing program. CAASPP is a system intended to provide information that can be used to monitor student progress and ensure that all students leave high school ready for college and career.

• CAASPP incorporates the Smarter Balanced Assessment Conscortium (SBAC), a standardized test consortium
• Students in 3rd - 8th grade, and 11th grade will take part in the SBAC.
• Students will be assessed in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math. 5th grade students will also take the California Science Test

**** Please plan vacations and medical appointments around these dates (specifically 8-10 am each day)

Important reminders:

• Students should have a good night's sleep
• Eat a healthy breakfast
• Bring their own earbuds/headphones (if they have them). School will supply to those who do not have their own.
• NO personal tech devices allowed during testing (this includes Smart Watches, Smart Phones..)

Reminder to all parents - the Absence Hotline is available to leave a message when you know your child will be or is absent for the school day. Please make your absent call prior to 9:00 am on the day of the absence.

When calling, please leave your childs name, grade, and reason for absence

Nohl Canyon is beginning to see more students carrying their own cell phones. Please discuss with your child the guidelines for cell phones/communication devices (watches) while at school:

1) NO CELL from BELL to BELL - cell phones need to be turned OFF and stored in students backpack from first bell to dismissal bell.

2) Students who need to contact parents/guardians are expected to come to the front office to make the phone call.

3) Students who do not follow the guidelines:

1st occurrence: warning - expected to place phone back in backpack

2nd occurrence: cell phone confiscated - Parent Pick-up in office

The KIDS CORNER section of the newsletter will be a place to highlight our Roadrunner Students succeeding in outside activities. Nohl Canyon has a wide range of students in a variety of activities; Dance, Gymnastics, Equestrian, Cheer, Karate, Tennis, Baseball, Basketball, Football, Hockey..plus many more. If you would like to highlight your child, please send Mr. Jones a photo and description of your child(s).
