Congratulations to all of the Spelling Bee Competitors!
Felix H. emerged as the 2024 SCS Scripps Spelling Bee champion on February 01 after a spectacular 47 round showing, an SCS record! Felix is an 8th grader on the Yellow Team. Over 200 students participated in the written qualifying exam this year, with the top 20% of spellers from each grade level being invited to compete in the school bee. The championship was decided after almost 700 words!
5th grader Henry G. and 7th grader Emmett A. were the second and third-place runners-up. These three students did a fantastic job and their hard work and dedication to practice was apparent. Scripps has consistently had the largest number of SCS students participating each year across grades 3-8 of any extracurricular activity. Felix will move on to the Vermont State Spelling Bee where he will represent SCS with pride. The state bee will be held on March 28, 2024 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Middlebury College. School spelling bee winners from across the state will gather here for a robust and exciting competition. Good luck Felix, we are proud of you!
Well done 7th Graders!
Students in 7th grade created integer games to demonstrate their understanding of integers. They played them with their classmates, and then gave and received peer feedback. There were many fun and clever games created.

Connecting Youth’s Mentor Coordinators Alison Duback and Kate Rooney recently returned from attending the National Mentoring Summit - a gathering of the nation's brightest minds in mentoring. Annually hosted in Washington, DC by MENTOR, the Summit is packed with learning opportunities, peer-collaboration, and inspiration, all focused on one shared goal: expanding and sustaining the youth mentoring movement.
Additionally, Alison Duback participated in the Summit’s Capitol HIll Day where advocates spent the day meeting with legislators and their staff about the critical value of surrounding young people with supportive relationships. “We met with legislative assistants from [Senator} Welch & [Representative] Balint's offices to talk about mentoring. Our last meeting of the day was with Bernie who actually attended the meeting. He asked us about our programs and then asked if we need more mentors. We all said "Yes!", so he is having his communications person put an article in The Bernie Buzz about mentoring.”
We’ll keep our eyes peeled for Bernie’s mentor endorsement. What an impact!
