Fun PTA Events for the Family
PARSONS LUAU: Come Dance Tonight!
March 3rd at 6pm
Don't miss out on the fun in store for the whole family. Tonight, PTA is hosting a Luau Dance Party in the Commons Area at Peachtree Ridge High School. Come show off you dance moves and sing along with the DJ's tunes. Tickets are now $15 and can be purchased at the door if you didn't get yours on MemberHub.
PARSONS FAMILY MOVIE UNDER THE STARS & INTERNATIONAL NIGHT
MARCH 10 at 5:30pm
Come celebrate our diverse community and all the wonderful things our community does for our students. We encourage all students to come and participate in the International Night Parade and then eat dinner from one of the International Food Trucks. When the sun goes down, Movie Under the Stars will begin. It's a two for one kind of night! Bring a blanket and watch the movie with your family on our front lawn. (This is our Rescheduled Movie Night from earlier in the year). The event will be on our front lawn as always, but will be moved to the gym in case of cold or rainy weather. Tickets can be purchased at https://app.memberhub.gives/2023-parsons-movie/Campaign/Details.
Don't forget to vote in our new movie poll. The winner from the October poll was Minions: The Rise of Gru. The new poll includes our current selection plus two newer releases. Please vote for your movie of choice at the link below. One vote per person, please!

Black History Month Wax Museum Project for 4th and 5th Grade Students
In honor of Black History Month, students at Parsons Elementary School can choose to present in a living Wax Museum! (This is NOT a required assignment.) The Wax Museum will take place on Tuesday, March 7th from 6:00-7:00 PM. Interested students will select a famous African American to portray. They will have from now until Friday, March 3rd to complete a research project. The project will consist of researching and documenting facts, making a poster, trifold, or digital presentation, dressing up, and performing a short speech. ALL RESEARCH will be completed at home. Interest forms should be completed and turned in to Mrs. Philyaw by Friday, February 10th. All projects are due by Friday, March 3rd for the wax museum.
Kids Heart Challenge
The Kids Heart Challenge is starting this week! The Kids Heart Challenge focuses on teaching students how to achieve whole-body wellness. Your child can help to raise lifesaving donations for the American Heart Association. These donations will help support kids facing heart health issues. Visit Heart.org/KHC to register your child. Once you register, complete Finn's mission, start raising donations and collect Heart Heroes.

Dual Language Immersion Informational Parent Meeting for Rising Kindergarten
Do you have a rising kindergarten student for the 2023-2024 school year? Are you or anyone you know with a rising kindergarten student interested in Dual Language Immersion?
STEM Math Competition
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Georgia Gwinnett College would like to share a great opportunity for students interested in STEM. Georgia Gwinnett College is hosting the Sixth Annual Olifer Math Competition for students in grades 1-10 on Saturday, March 25, 2023. We are hoping that some students at Peachtree Ridge High School will participate.
This math competition is a celebration of future science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) majors. Children are natural problem solvers and like to think outside of the box. The problems used in this contest are designed to inspire them and encourage them to engage with this kind of thinking. It will be a different and unique experience from what children usually experience in the classroom. Solving problems and meeting other children in a collegiate environment will make this competition an unforgettable event.
The registration is $10 per participant and seats are limited. For each grade, the first three places at the competition will receive special math prizes and all participants will receive recognition for their participation. The flyer and some sample problems from previous years are attached. Here is a link for registration and QR code:

AKS At Home
As part of Gwinnett County Public Schools’ family engagement initiative, the school district seeks to empower parents with tools that allow them to help their children at home. Our AKS at Home project provides math and language arts resources to support families of children in grades K-5 so that they truly are partners in their children’s learning. This support is available for families to access in the format that suits them and their schedule best. They can attend live virtual meetings, view recorded information, and gain tools and suggestions on how to best help their children through tip sheets on a wide variety of topics. Click the link for more information. https://www.gcpsk12.org/domain/13286

Does your child need help with a subject at school?
In partnership with the Gwinnett County Public Library (GCPL), GCPS provides Tutor.com as an online tutoring resource for students. The expert tutors at Tutor.com can help your student work through a tough homework problem, improve writing skills, study for a test, review a difficult concept, and so much more! Live tutoring support is available daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. In addition, students can receive “drop-off support,” 24-7, by uploading a document for tutor feedback that will be reviewed and returned at a later time. To learn more about how to access this resource and what is offered, click here.
