Holy Name Highlights
August 10, 2018
Note from the Principal's Desk
Giant Family!
What a great first week back to school it has been! The school is once again energized by all the students and that energy is contagious! It has only been one week but it feels like everyone is right back into the groove of school! We have sports gearing up – from kickball to football to cross country – our kids our excelling at more than just their classroom work! Thank you all for your patience with arrival and dismissal – even those procedures take a few days to smooth out and get back to the way they were last year!
Next week we will are going to focus school-wide on school safety. Each day we will share a school safety tip to the students over the announcements and we will practice our drills including a fire, inclement weather, and lockdown drills. In today’s world it is unfortunately necessary to spend time doing these drills, but ultimately our priority is the safety and well-being of the student and staff. As a staff this year, we are going to spend time at each of our faculty meetings going over different school safety scenarios and having meaningful conversations on how we would respond. Both Mrs. Wright and I have attended the Indiana School Safety Specialist training conducted by the Indiana Department of Education and plan to use that training as we work with the staff.
Thanks for a great first week of school and have a great weekend!

From The Social Worker
From the Desk of the Social Worker:
I am excited to be back at Holy Name School for a wonderful new school year! I am here to assist your children with any problem they might be struggling with. Some examples of things I can help with are grief, anxiety, depression, peer conflicts, as well as separation or divorce related issues.
I will need your permission to see any student in grades Pre-K through 5th, unless there is an emergency, but students in the middle school may self-refer.
I will be at Holy Name on Wednesday this year.
Please feel free to call me if you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to working with you and your children!

Cub Scouts
Scout me in!
Another fun year of scouting adventure begins on August 21st!!
The year-long program that includes: arts & crafts, swimming, hiking, camping, archery, outdoor cooking, B.B. rifle shooting, campfires, and pinewood derby are a part of the Scouting experience. Past years have included a police helicopter landing on our football field, birds of prey demonstrations, trained canine police officers, and rising 50 feet into the air on a fire engine bucket.
Pack 92 at St. Mark will have a registration night beginning at 6:30 on Tuesday, August 21st. Boys and girls in Kindergarten through 5th grade (ages 5 to 10) are invited to attend with an adult. Bring a buddy along too, because Scouting with your best friend lasts a lifetime.
An adult representative will be at school to talk about Scouting and answer questions. A recent BSA membership policy change allows the entire family to participate. Parents’ questions about Pack structure can be answered at registration night. Questions that can’t wait can be directed to John Hibner at hibnerjohn@yahoo.com. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.

Oktoberfest Sign-Ups!
The Holy Name Catholic Church Oktoberfest, scheduled this year for October 5th and 6th, is a fun and family-friendly festival with great live music, delicious authentic homemade German food and desserts, and popular adult beverages. It's one of Holy Name's biggest fundraisers of the year, and because a significant portion of the Parish budget is used to support the school, this fundraiser also directly benefits our students.
The Holy Name Oktoberfest Committee is now seeking volunteers to help make it a success. Please consider donating just a few hours of your time in support of this important fundraiser for Holy Name students, teachers, and parishioners. (Note: While Roncalli students are welcome to volunteer as service hours, our Holy Name kids are not old enough to sign up.) Use the SignUp Genius link below, or call the Parish Office at 317-784-5454. We can't do this without you!
