Holiday Message from Dr. Jenner
Take Time with Things that Bring You JOY
As Dr. Jenner said, I hope this week and over the 2 week break that you take time for yourself. You spend so much time and energy dedicated to serving others and you can sometimes forget to take care of yourself. Take time with the people and activities that bring you JOY!
In case you didn't know, watching each of you in your classrooms, connecting with students, engaging kids with hands-on activities, conducting meaningful conversations, and opening our students' eyes to things they didn't even know is possible is what brings me joy. So thank you for brightening my day every day at SHS!
Thank you for everything you do.

Mrs. Brunsell's Students Present their PBL Projects
Project Based Learning
Mrs. Brunsell's classes have been working on their PBL projects for the last six weeks based on the dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico. Students made their final presentations last week to receive feedback and share their findings.
Thank You To:
- Caleb Francis and his Theater Arts class for working with the 5th graders from Homecroft again this year. The Homecroft students submit stories and our theater class puts together productions of a few selected stories. It's a great way to connect future Cardinals to SHS and our theater program.
- Amanda Schnepp, Cathee Cullison, and the Social Commitee for organizing the Southport High School Christmas Project to support our students and families in need. A special thank you to all those who helped donate as well!
- Our school counselors for working to balance double block classes next semester and make adjustements for 2nd semester schedules already.
Chirps & Cheers
"The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate." - Oprah Winfrey
Lauren Davis & Cooper
Thank you to Lauren Davis for helping the lost dog that was walking along Banta early in the morning this week. Mr. Hanley brought over food and a leash while Mrs. Davis worked to reconnect Cooper with his family. The staff gave him lots of pets while he waited in Mrs. Tasker's office. Luckily, Cooper's dad was able to pick him up after escaping the evening before and roaming the southside.
Mike Johnson
District coaches Jessica Witt, Julie Zachary, and Steve Drewecki visited Mr. Johnson's Integrated Math class this week to model how to implement a language routine into a math classroom. They are piloting structures in our sheltered math classes but they can be implemented into any class, and the students are doing a great job.
Brianne Osburn
Mrs. Osburn's students were participating in a student led Socratic seminars during class. The seminars were about their novel, The Kite Runner. Students were actively enaged and participating throughout the class.
Joan Tejchma
Ms. Joan Tejchma's sheltered ICP classes were making ice cream last week. During the process, a few students started singing and dancing to incorporate their own culture into the process. It's great when students are learning and sharing a bit of themselves at the same time.
Mentor Teacher ILT Meeting
The mentor teachers participated in the ILT meeting this week to give more detailed feedback about the action-research PD process. Instructional coaches were taking notes and groups prioritized areas that went well, needs for the future, and things to change.
Aviation Field Trip
The school counselors arranged an aviation field trip for students last week. Students were able to board a plane, see various aviation vehicles, and learned some of the technical requirements for the plane engines and propellers. They were able to learn various job opportunities around aviation.

Zero Is Yelling at You About the Staff Dress Up Days THIS Week
****Don't forget that if you pay $5.00 towards helping Homecroft make their journal, then you can wear jeans everyday next week. You can bring the $5.00 to Tasker's office.
