Chief Report
June
Mr. Lester
Congratulations to the Class of 2020! It has been an Honor and Privilege to serve as your principal these last four years. As you make your mark in the world, never ever forget that you are a CHIEF!
COVID-19 may have derailed many of our plans but this class has prevailed through it ALL. I am proud of ALL of your ACCOMPLISHMENTS and how each of you have and will continue to represent the PHS EMPIRE. We wish YOU well.
We want to welcome the Class of 2024. I cannot believe I am saying 2024...and I do not have a flying car yet? We are looking forward to taking those next steps with you as you learn and grow at PHS. So let’s begin the hard work now to prepare for a GREAT future.
Please give us 45 minutes of reading per day to keep your minds open and ready to learn. Hopefully, in September we will all be together again. Over the summer, continue to practice social distancing while connecting, exploring and growing. Be safe and cool.
Once again, congratulations to the Class of 2020! Be well.
Strength & Honor
PHS Artist Wins First Place | PHS | Dorothy Amme
PHS artist Kiera Reeves won 1st Place in the NJ Dept. of Human Services Teen Media Contest in the hand drawn category for her drawing on the theme "a valuable life lesson or moment you will never forget." This contest is open to middle and high school students from the entire state of New Jersey. Congratulations to Kiera and thank you to Dorothy Amme for the opportunity!
Cassidy Page - GMC Scholar Athlete
Cassidy Page is the epitome of what a student athlete represents at Piscataway High School. She maintains an A average in the classroom and thrives in all settings. She was selected to represent Piscataway High School at an Engineering conference at Princeton University due to her outstanding achievements in science. Cassidy is a 3 season athlete as she competes in cross country, winter, and spring track. She holds 3 school records in cross country and ranks towards the top in all distance events on the track. This past year, she earned all Red Division honors in cross country for the 2nd year in a row and won team MVP in cross country for the 2nd year in a row. Her leadership at Piscataway is valuable as she has been team captain in cross country and track for 2 years. Her leadership skills carry over to the community as she is an active participant with the Christ Methodist Church. She volunteers her time doing food drives, raising money for the hungry, and cleaning up around Piscataway. Cassidy will continue her athletic and academic career at Rowan University majoring in Biology.

PHS Laramie Project Receives a Superior Rating | PHS Drama
Congratulations to the PHS Drama Club and their production of The Laramie Project! They received a superior rating at the Montclair University Theatre Night Foxy Awards! Thanks to Mr. Yoson!
Honors and Awards
This year we got cheated out of participating in this years film challenges and lost the opportunity to grab some awards. Several students have produced other video productions throughout the year that were entered into other contests. One student, Ronni Garrett (senior) had two separate films get accepted as finalists in several film festivals.
Ronni will be attending Fairleigh Dickinson University to study TV Production and Filmmaking in the fall. I have no doubt that she will take the school by storm and be well on her way to a multitude of filmmaking awards and successful media projects.

Ms. Mrotek's Science Class
On March 6, 2020, a group of nineteen Piscataway High School students were invited to participate in Young Engineers Day at Rutgers University’s MSE department. This event was sponsored by Rutgers Material Science and Engineering Department’s Keramos Chapter. This is the second year our school was invited to participate in this event. The event was organized by senior Rutgers student, Katie Sun and Piscataway High School Science teacher Dr. Janet Mrotek, who is a Rutgers Material Science and Engineering (MSE) alum. The day activities included individual take-home glass slump molding projects, a glass pouring demonstration, department and campus tours, and discussions about materials science and transitioning from life in high school to college. The students learned about glass science and material characterization fundamentals, and even got a glimpse of a novel additive manufacturing research project. Also, two former PHS students, Sanjna Sukumaran and Kenny Narvaez, who are currently attending Rutgers and majoring in MSE stopped by to share their experiences with our group. Keramos, which is the National Professional Ceramic Engineering Fraternity and the Ceramics and Glass Industry Foundation financially supported this event in order to continue their mission of engaging the next generation of materials scientists.
Please see below for some of the pictures captured from the trip.
