News from Mr. Hartmann . . .
Throughout the year, staff are busy teaching and reteaching the expectations and routines. It is critical that we are holding the expectation of how we treat each other and our learning environment to a high standard. Our goal is to build their understanding of why the expectations are important and grow the ability of the students to self-correct. As part of our SOAR process, teachers and other staff members use evidence-based practices to increase student learning and decrease classroom disruptions.
- Consistently teach and refer to our school-wide expectations
- Use pre-correcting, prompting, and redirecting as we teach
- Look for the positive first and provide positive, immediate, frequent, and explicit feedback
If a student is not responding to reteaching, the following may be utilized:
Minor Behavior Problem Solving Form:
- Reteaching of expectation
- Student-Teacher Conference
- Parent-Teacher Communication as needed
Major Behavior Problem Solving Form:
- Significant behavior that requires immediate attention from someone in the office.
- Repeated minor behavior that we are targeting for improvement.
- Phone call home
- Collaborate regarding next steps and determine specific action and reteaching the school, the student, and home will own.
Kaitlin O'Shea - Lead Teacher of Student Services
Sometimes in life things happen that you know is awesome for someone, but it personally stinks. Mrs. O'Shea and her family will be relocating to Costa Rica in January. She has been an exceptional leader and partner the past 2.5 years, and her contributions to Blue Heron will be missed. Her efforts to positively impact the lives and well-being of students and staff are truly appreciated. She has made Blue Heron a better place to learn and work. We are working on finding a suitable replacement. Mrs. O'Shea's last day at Blue Heron will be Friday, December 22.
“CHANGE IS INEVITABLE IN LIFE. YOU CAN EITHER RESIST IT AND POTENTIALLY GET RUN OVER BY IT, OR YOU CAN CHOOSE TO COOPERATE WITH IT, ADAPT TO IT, AND LEARN HOW TO BENEFIT FROM IT. WHEN YOU EMBRACE CHANGE YOU WILL BEGIN TO SEE IT AS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR GROWTH.” – JACK CANFIELD
