This year's Style Revue and State Fair Awards Program is tonight - Tuesday July 18th starting at 7 pm at Fisher Auditorium. Come out and support our youth as they showcase the amazing clothing and textile projects that they've completed this year and support those that have qualified to represent Wayne County in Still Projects and Family / Consumer Sciences projects at the 2017 Ohio State Fair.

Just a friendly reminder, the listing of possible Skillathon Stations to Study for 2017 was included in the Skillathon letter that was mailed to all livestock exhibitors in May. Don't forget Skillathon will be held at the Fisher Auditorium (OSU Wooster Campus) on July 20, 24, and 25th from 7-9 pm.

Checkout the Skillathon Club Schedule for the date and time that your club is scheduled to participate. This information was also included in the May mailing to all livestock exhibitors. If you cannot attend during your club's scheduled time - please come anytime during the 3 evenings of Skillathon July 20, 24, or 25th or contact the Extension Office in advance to schedule a time to complete your Skillathon.

Youth participating in Livestock Interview Judging and/or Still Project Judging should be aware that it is very important to complete or fill out as much of the project record book as possible. This is something the judges look closely at and like to see several pages completed or at least partially completed.

In addition to the record books, Judges will be evaluating the member's knowledge of their project, quality of their display / exhibit (still projects), member's overall attitude and how the member presents him / herself.

The evaluation scale used for both livestock interview judging and still project judging is listed below. It is important that youth are prepared for their interview and to understand that if they get an incomplete at the August Judging, their project will not be eligible for exhibition at the Wayne County Junior Fair.

Attention Horse Youth - now is the time to start filling out your 2017 Horse Youth of the Year Award application. Criteria for the award will include: written application (65%), Fun Show Points (15%), and 4-H or FFA Advisor Recommendation Letter (20%). Applications are due to the Extension Office by 4:30 pm on August 1st.

Discounted Ohio State Fair Tickets are available through the local Wooster office of AAA. Please call 330-345-5550 for more information.

Has your club been actively keeping track of points and filling in the new Wayne County 4-H STAR Club award form. This is a great activity for club officers to do. Clubs should earn at least 1,350 points out of more than 2,700 available points to earn this standard of excellence.

Download the form at go.osu.edu/starclub and start keeping track of your club’s activities and points today. Star Club Award applications will be due September 30th and fabulous prizes will be awarded at the 4-H Recognition Banquet in November.

You must apply for a camping permit. Camping fees are $125 per unit for all 6 days of the fair. Forms and payment should be submitted to the Senior Fair Board office. Registration forms are due August 19, 2017.

Now is a great time for your club to talk about what community service projects they would like to participate in for this year. Approximate cost for one bike is $65.00 and they are given to local children around Christmas time. If your club would like to donate to bikes for kids, please make your donation to the Extension Office by September 30.

We know school just let out for most of you, but the 4-H Advisory Committee is once again sponsoring the 4-H Back to School drive to help support our communities. Wayne County 4-H clubs are encouraged to participate in this by collecting school supplies (markers, compasses, colored pencils, wide rule loose leaf paper, crayons, glue, etc.) at their summer club meetings.

School supplies can be dropped off July 27th, 31st or August 1st from 3:00 pm - 7:00pm at the Jr. Fair Office. (Same time and place as Jr. Fair entries are due) All county 4-H clubs will have their items tallied and scored based on a percentage of club enrollments. This ensures all clubs have a fair chance of winning the 4-H Back to School Drive!. The winning club will get to have a pizza or ice cream party sponsored by the 4-H Committee.

Applications and all related materials are due (received, not postmarked) by Friday, August 11, 2017.

Individuals must be 14-18 as of January 1 of the year of application to apply for white, green, silver, and gold levels. Platinum level applicants must be 18-20 years old (as of January 1) when they apply.

Over 11,800 4-H alum show support through Raise your Hand

COLUMBUS, Ohio (7-11-2017) -- Ohio 4-H announced its award of $20,000 for participation in Raise Your Hand, a national 4-H initiative asking the millions of 4‑H alumni across the nation, including 4-H alums in Ohio, to ‘Raise Your Hand’ and pay it forward in support of providing the hands-on learning that empowers kids across America.

4-H, the largest youth development program in the nation, called on alumni to raise their hands to help bring 4-H to 10 million youth by 2025. Currently 4-H empowers nearly six million young people in every county across America, including 444,900 4-H’ers in Ohio.

The 4-H Healthy Living program provides youth with the opportunity to represent 4-H and promote healthy living in their communities. 4-H Health Heroes promote healthy eating, encourage people to engage in physical activities, and promote positive community change. Additionally, Ohio 4-H Health Heroes help Ohio 4-H accomplish the goals of the National 4-H Healthy Living Mission Mandate, which encourages youth and families to gain optimal physical, social, and emotional well-being.
