Educational Tips For Parents
The Down and Dirty on Drug Abuse
Though illegal drug use is down overall among teens, drug abuse is still a serious problem. Teenagers, in particular, are at high risk for becoming addicted because the frontal lobe of their brain – the area responsible for impulse control – is still not yet fully developed. While it is quite common for teens to experiment with drugs and alcohol, they are also naturally impulsive and make decisions without being able to properly understand what the consequences may be. This poor decision-making can lead to devastating consequences.
