Be sure to check LiveSchool regularly to know how your scholar is earning and/or losing points. This will give you a good idea of how your scholar is consistently performing.
Scholars should always be in uniform: gray bottoms, black or white polo, navy blue or black outerwear.

World Reader!
Centennial Academy is a recipient of the Let’s Get Children Reading Grant. The grant was opened in March 2023 to US organizations working to solve the learning crisis by promoting family reading and building the reading confidence of parents and caregivers to support their child’s learning. As a recipient, Worldreader is offering CA a free digital library of books for our families to enjoy. With Worldreader’s free digital reading experience, Book Smart, scholars and their caregivers have the required tools to build their reading skills through high-quality books, activities that reinforce reading skills in fun and interactive ways, and celebrations of their success. In addition to the fun you’ll have while reading with your child, consider developing a list of ways to celebrate every 5 days of reading. You can find a few ideas below.
Take a walk and allow your child to select the route
Go to the library to pick out new books
Watch a movie at home and allow your child to select the movie
Pick out a free day pass from the library to a local attraction
Let your child select their favorite meal for lunch or dinner

Hispanic Heritage Month Highlight
Materials are here for our Piñata Mania: Smash for Glory! Scholars are fully engaged and embracing constructing their Piñatas! This festive challenge is underway throughout the month. Scholars have until 10/15 to complete their piñatas. Then their finished works go on display until 10/30, when a winner is announced. Enjoy this short video of their progress, and be on the lookout for more updates on our social media!
Media Center Mentions
Accelerated Reader!
- Encouraging a love for reading one book at a time! We will be using Accelerated Reader again this year to support our scholars’ reading progress. Nearly every children's book in the world is available for practice quizzes! We will help scholars choose “good fit” books when they visit the media center. Scholars can take quizzes on nearly anything they read, but only during school hours 7:30am-4:00pm.
Georgia Tech Buzzer Readers
- The Georgia Tech Women’s Basketball team invites your scholar to participate in the annual “Buzzer Readers” reading program. We are excited for the new incentives that will surround the program! It will be held in conjunction with the start of the Women’s Basketball season. All elementary school students from Atlanta Public Schools are eligible to participate and top readers will have an opportunity to go on a field trip to GT’s opening game on Monday, November 6th. The competition will run Tuesday, September 5th through Thursday, October 5th. Scholars in Kindergarten through 5th grade can also get printed reading logs to return to Ms. Burke.
Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl
We are looking for motivated, competitive readers to represent Centennial in this year’s Helen Ruffing Reading Bowl. Team practices will start in September, but the list of required books is here, and scholars can get a head start on reading. Any scholar in 4th & 5th grade is welcome to the club, but only 10 scholars will be able to compete in the bowl in January 2024.
