Inspire, Create and Grow a Community of Lifelong Learners
NEWS FROM MRS. HAZARD, PRINCIPAL
Happy Snow Day!
I hope you are able to take time to enjoy the new-fallen snow; it is beautiful!
We had a short, but eventful, week.
- On Tuesday, licensed staff participated in the final session of the Advanced Responsive Classroom course. We learned more about responding to misbehavior, including conflict resolution. We also spent time discussing the importance of family engagement and planning engagement throughout the year.
- Thursday brought our second Options-Based Drill, as required by the Agency of Education. Students and staff know the drill will take place prior to its announcement. This time, we used the scenario of a skunk on the playground (3rd/4th students were at recess and K-2 students were in the lunchroom). Given the scenario, which could evolve, staff must make an in-the-moment decision to run, hide or fight. Students know their job is to listen and follow staff directions quickly and quietly...and, our student did just that. I am so proud of our students' response to all of our safety drills. They know, the more we practice, the better we get and the more prepared we are. Well done, SRES!
Winter Sports
- Tuesday, January 24th
- PLEASE label your child's belongings (equipment and clothing).
- This week, ALL students will eat at SRES.
- The Okemo bus will leave SRES at 11:30am; arriving at Okemo's base lodge at 12:15pm, with ski/snowboard lessons beginning at 12:30pm. Skaters will make their way to Jackson Gore once the skiers/snowboarders are dropped off.
- Swimmers will also leave SRES at 11:30am.
- Students will return to SRES prior to our 3pm dismissal.
- VOLUNTEERS: Please look for an email from me today. Thank you!!
Winter Assessments
- Next week, students will participate in the DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) assessment. This is a quick 1:1 assessment that allows us to see growth and areas of need so that we can target instruction accordingly.
- Week of January 30th, students will participate in the MAP (Measured Academic Progress) math and reading assessment.
- Please make sure your child is prepared to do their best work (family encouragement, enough sleep, body fueled). Thank you!
Looking ahead:
- January 23rd: 4th grade to facilitate our All School Meeting (rescheduled)
- January 27th: Crazy hat/hair day (rescheduled)!
- January 31st: Winter Sports
- February 7th: Winter Sports
- February 8th: Early Release
I love SRES - it is an OUTSTANDING place to work and learn! We DO "inspire, create, and grow a community of lifelong learners!" And, I am proud of the work we do each and every day.

Laura Hazard
The federal government has approved Pandemic-EBT benefits for the current school year, until the end of the public health emergency.
Our school offers free meals to all students. This makes all students eligible to get P-EBT benefits for any days:
- They had an excused COVID-related absence, or
- There was a COVID-related school closure.
These benefits:
- Are meant to replace the value of free school meals students would have received at school.
- Will be provided to students who had an excused COVID-related absence. Benefits will also be provided to all students for any days when our school had a COVID-related closure. Getting free meals to eat at home during a closure or absence will not impact a student’s eligibility for P-EBT.
Letters will be sent home if your student becomes eligible. In the letter it will ask you to review the student's information so that the Pandemic-EBT cards are sent to the correct address and recorded correctly. You will be asked to review your student's name, date of birth, head of household and mailing address.
The list of Frequently-Asked Questions about P-EBT benefits can be found here:

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM NEWS
Even though we had a short week. Our ASP students enjoyed some great clubs!
Wednesday:
Choice club: Some of us made our feathered friends, others chose to make yummy treats, and the rest played with Lego's and hot potato.
Thursday:
Rockingham Library club: Tonight Sam Maskell from the Rockingham Library brought us the fun experience of escape rooms. The ASP students worked well together to figure this activity out. We ended the day by playing Pictionary. We have some very talented artists!
We still have some spaces in our After school Program. Please reach out to me at tina.white@wnesu.com if you are interested in signing your child up .
Friendly reminders: Please send you ASP students to prepare for outside recess. We go outside unless it is raining or below 15 degrees.
The After School Program is running its normal hours on Tuesday during winter sports. Please let us know if your child will not be attending ASP on Tuesday by 9 AM, so we may get an accurate snack count.
