State of Schools Report Shared with Board
PLCS Student Academic Measurement for 2022-23 School Year!
Shureen Seery and Angie Wright shared 2022-2023 NSCAS and MAP Data with the Board. Here are several highlights that they shared:
- PLCS continues to perform above state and national averages.
- Our graduation rate remains strong.
- Our district classification status from NDE continues to be "Great."
- The MAP assessment has given our teachers and building leaders a valuable data point to measure growth of all students.
- We have high expectations and see an opportunity for improvement.
- We will continue to seek improvement and focus on rigor.
- We will continue to monitor chronic absenteeism rates, and focus on strategies to encourage students to be at school. We know that students need to be in school in order to be successful academically.

Correct Language is VERY important to PLCS and Communication with Parents
The SRP is a comprehensive emergency response framework designed to provide clear, consistent, and effective protocols in various crisis situations. It ensures that everyone—students, faculty, staff, and parents—understands what actions to take in the event of an emergency.
"Lockdown versus Secure, what's the difference?"
These words can paint a very similar picture in someone's mind, but they are vastly different; the main difference can be boiled down is the threat outside versus inside.
- When a "Secure" is initiated, a threat is outside the building; the building is locked and no one is allowed inside or outside. This could be something like a high speed car chase through the district, or a suspect on the run, or a local emergency of some kind. During a secure operations an learning inside the school proceed as normal.
- When a "Lockdown" is initiated, a threat is inside the building; locks, lights, out of sight. Doors are locked. Lights are turned off. Students hide.
Hopefully you can see that these words sound very similar, but mean very different things. In all PLCS Communication to staff and parents, the words are precise to communicate the most correct information at the time. Your partnership is crucial in maintaining a safe and secure environment for all PLCS schools. If you have any questions about the Standard Response Protocol, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child's building principal. Thank you for your support and cooperation in keeping PLCS a safe place for learning and growth.
