HMS News
Greetings from HMS!
“Everyone who remembers his own education remembers teachers, not methods and techniques. The teacher is the heart of the educational system.” —Sidney Hook
As we begin Teacher Appreciation Week, I can think of no better quote to captures the impact that teachers have on our children, and the incredibly important role they play in our lives. I’m sure we can all think of those special teachers from our own education that made an indelible mark on us, helping to make us the people we are today, as well as teachers in our school today who are doing the same for our children now.
As further proof of this, each year, when Hingham High School seniors are given the opportunity to volunteer in the classrooms of some of their former teachers, HMS is humbled and overwhelmed by the number of students who want to return here and help their former teachers. They choose to come back here, not because of the "methods and techniques" that were used when they were here, but because of the people they worked with and how they made them feel. It is a testament to the work our teachers do and how they touch lives, and I can not thank them enough for it.
Please take some time this week to reach out to a teacher and let them know just how much you appreciate the work they do. It means more than you can know!
Recently during STEM class, seventh graders tested water sources for water quality indicators like pH, turbidity, and nitrate levels. They will use this data to determine where a local animal species would best survive.
Grade Eight Soccer!!!
Starting on Monday, May 8th, grade eight students will be competing in a grade-wide soccer tournament. Students have been placed into teams based on their history classes. All games will be played right after school on the fields, and the championship game will be played during Field Day!
The first-round schedule has been posted on the eighth-grade history Google Classrooms.
Good luck to all teams! This is sure to be a fun and friendly competition.
Movin' On Up!
Hingham High School counselors are hosting the Class of 2027 for a first-time event: Ninth Grade Move Up Day!
The Class of 2027 will have the opportunity to tour HHS, hear from upperclassmen about the daily life of a high school student, and have their questions answered. The ninth grade move up day is June 8th, 9:30 - 12:30 at HHS.
Lunch will be provided.
We are looking forward to what we are sure will be a great day!

PTO News
Help Wanted!
The HMS PTO is looking for help!
The current board is composed of parents of students who will be moving on to high school come next fall, so we are in need of new leadership!
We are looking for three to four volunteers to fill out the board as we already have a PTO Treasurer for next year. Volunteers help with fall grade level events and oversee chairs for staff appreciation and mini-grants.
It’s a fun, but not large commitment and a great way to get involved at the middle school.
Please consider taking on one of these important positions.
Anyone interested can contact Kate Newth at katenewth@hotmail.com
Thank you for your support!
