Thoughts on Our Kids and the Pandemic
This year has been a doozy, a whopper, and a humdinger! As parents, we have seen so many changes in this unique year. In doing some homework on how best to meet the needs of our students during a pandemic, and supporting them as we transition out of a pandemic, I found an insightful article that offers some ideas. (As with any article, there are some things I agree with and some I don't.)
One quote that resonated with me was, " If adults want to guide their children toward resilience, these experts say, then they need to get their own minds out of crisis mode." Many of us adults have operated in crisis mode for so long, that we are struggling with the transition back to a new normal. But it is key that our children see and hear us make that shift.
While this was just one quote in one article, attending to our kid's mental health is important. No matter where your family is in this journey through the pandemic, talking to our children about their health can help re-regulate their emotions and also help us express what we are feeling.
Enjoy your weekend!

FIVE Reminders for After School Pick Up
Just a reminder to parents...
You need to pick up kids at the Norris Center parking lot after school, not off the Dunham Road driveway, Kirk Rd, or Fox Chase Blvd roadways.
Go slowly and be aware of all students and cars in the lots, crossing the roadways.
You need to pull into a parking space in the Norris lot.
Please follow all posted signs and arrows. This includes Fox Chase Rd being closed from Kirk Rd to East HS daily for our bus traffic.
Parents may NOT pick-up students from our back parking lot without permission from Mr. Loversky (ex. due to injury). They will receive a pass for this purpose. We have too many smaller buses trying to pick up students from this area.
Thank you,
Tim
REMINDERS FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE
Medication Pickup Reminder
Please do not forget to pick up all medications by the last day of school! Those medicines not picked up by an adult by May 28th, will need to be disposed of. The only medications that can be given to a student to transport home are those that are allowed to be self carried (Epi Pens, Pancreatic Enzymes or inhalers). If there is a self carry form on file for one of those medications, please remind your student to stop in and pick up medication before leaving on the last day. All medication orders must be renewed each school year. Forms are available on the district web site under “Parents”, then “forms” or by contacting the health office.
Appointments for the required 6th grade and 9th grade physicals tend to fill up quickly and should be scheduled now! Please submit the completed physicals to the respective schools as they are done. They are required to be submitted for review prior to the first day.
The health office is closed during the summer months. We will return for limited hours beginning in early August. Please contact me if there are new medical concerns for your child or if your child will need a health plan at school.
Have a safe and healthy summer!

Attention 8th Grade Parents:
If your child was assigned to our Remote Academy at any time this year, we would like your RedHawk 8th grade to be in our End-of-the-Year video! If you would like that too, please send a photo of your 8th grader, preferably at their work station (if that makes sense) to meghan.cannon@d303.org.
Please include your child's name in the subject of the email. (ex: Fred Jones 8th Grade Photo)

We are working with our PTO and 8th-grade teachers to make this day as fun as possible while still maintaining social distance.
