Accelerated Placement Act
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We want to share important news about the Accelerated Placement Act, also known as Public Act 100-0421, which affects your student’s education in Illinois public schools. The goal of this law is to provide all students with an equal chance to access advanced courses during high school This law is designed to make sure that high school students who perform exceptionally well on state standardized tests, including PSAT 9, PSAT 10, and the SAT are given the opportunity to take more challenging and advanced courses. Fine and Applied Arts Exciting News!
The MHS Band program experienced a huge success this past week with the Illinois Music Education Association’s announcement of State Qualifying students. The band program will be sending 4 students to the state level to participate in Honor Band experiences! A big congratulations to the following students for their individual accomplishment of placing in the top 1-2% of musicians on their respective instruments:

Fine and Applied Arts - FBLA Fall Retreat
Our Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) students recently attended the 2023 Fall Leadership Retreat held in Southern Illinois. The annual retreat brings together top FBLA students from across the state for intensive leadership training, career workshops, and networking with business professionals. The student leaders in attendance were Xander Ede, Zach Glazer, Gabriella Goodson, Aidan Hanrahan, Adrian Rosales, Azael Sanchez, Bruce Searle, Benjamin Segura, Elizabeth Sharay, Michael Townsend, Anthony Vynnyk, and Olivia Wallace.
After a fun-filled several days, the Mundelein contingent headed home already looking ahead to FBLA’s next marquee events - the 2024 Area and State Conferences, followed by the National Leadership Conference.
Fine and Applied Arts - UW Eau Claire Visit
Our Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble had a unique opportunity to receive clinics by the UW Eau Claire Jazz Ensemble and director, Rob Baca this past Tuesday. Students performed for the college ensemble and then participated in the college-run instrumental clinics during their band periods. It was a fantastic experience for all!
2023 Mundelein Holiday Gift Drive
Our 2023 Holiday Gift Drive has the potential to positively impact over 100 families and 300 children in the Mundelein Community.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities
United Nations has established December 3 as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This international observance was established to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of persons with disabilities. It also aims to foster awareness of the importance of integrating persons with disabilities into every aspect of life.”

Upcoming Events
December 11 - 2024-2025 Course Selection Begins for Sophomores
Counselors will be making presentations in developmental guidance lessons to inform students and will begin meeting with individual students on the following dates:
- Juniors: November 27 - Completed
- Sophomores: December 11
- 8th graders: January 18
- Freshman: February 5
If you have any questions about this process you can reach out directly to your school counselor for more information.
We look forward to working closely with you and your student to plan for an exciting and challenging 2024-2025 school year.

December 15 - Días Festivos
As everyone is getting into the holiday spirit, we wanted to invite you to Puertas Club’s annual holiday event, Días Festivos, on Friday, December 15th, from 6:00-8:00 PM in the cafeteria! This bilingual, open-house style event is aimed at bringing families together at the school to celebrate the spirit of the season with their children and take part in family friendly activities that highlight some of the holiday and seasonal traditions of Latin America.

Glam for Good
Freshman and Sophomore Student Leadership are hosting our first ever "Glam for Good Drive: Supporting Students in Style."
We are hoping to offer affordable formal wear for students to purchase at low or no cost for Turnabout (March 2nd, 2024).
The items we aim to collect include:
- semi-formal and formal dresses
- dress shirts
- dress pants and slacks
- suits
- neckties and bow ties
- shoes (formal or stylish sneakers)
- jewelry
- makeup (must be new and unused)
Put items in individual ziplock bags and take to MHS Main Office by January 12th.

Experiential Education
Experiential Education describes all opportunities offered to students to give them a chance to explore the world of careers and professions. These include classes like Dual Credit Student Internship, Business INCubator, and Geometry in Construction as well as career treks and featured guest speakers.

Coaches Corner - Girls Bowling

MHS Girls Bowling took first place in the Antioch tourney over the weekend. Samantha Sciortino, Caitlin Sciortino and Brianna Merner Orlowski took 3 of the top 10 spots. Brianna earned the MHS girls record in 6 game total pin fall of 1209. On Monday night, we had our first conference match again Waukegan. We ended up winning and taking all 9 points for the season. Our next conference match is Monday, December 4 at Lakeside Lanes.
Coaches Corner - Wrestling

A great first week of competition! Last Wednesday we had all levels wrestle against Lakes for our first meet of the season, and the varsity team came out on top with a 54-18 victory! Our varsity, JV, and girls levels all went out and competed this past weekend, and all levels wrestled great! Huge shoutout to our varsity wrestlers who claimed medals at Lakes high school this past weekend; Pedro Becerra and Mac Rastrelli took 5th place, Kevin Hernandez took 4th place, and Abisai Hernandez (pictured) took 3rd place.
