SILC NEWS
November 5, 2023
The Feast of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is celebrated annually on November 21st, commemorating the presentation of the Blessed Virgin as a child by her parents in the Temple in Jerusalem. Before Mary's birth, her parents received a heavenly message that they would bear a child. In thanksgiving for the God's gift of Mary's birth, they brought her to the Temple to consecrate their only daughter to The Lord. from CatholicNewsAgency.com

The theme “Where to Turn.” In recognition of this important week, Education has partnered with Children and Family Services to host a Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week Virtual Speaker Series.
I invite all students, staff and parents to tune in to the Virtual Speaker Series on Friday November 24 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. This virtual event will feature speakers Teddy Manywounds and Sheldon Kennedy, who will share their unique stories and experiences with bullying behaviours. The speaker series will be followed by a live question and answer period – so come prepared with your questions!
Registration information for the live event can be found here. For those who cannot tune in live, a recording will be posted at alberta.ca/bullying-awareness-week following the live event.
I encourage you, along with your staff, students, and families, to join me in recognizing our need to work together to prevent bullying, promote healthy relationships, and support those impacted by bullying behaviours. For information on promoting healthy relationships in schools, please visit alberta.ca/safe-and-caring-schools.
Please share details of this Virtual Speaker Series with your staff and network. Thank you for your continued commitment to providing welcoming, caring, safe, and respectful environments for all of Alberta’s students.
