A Few Words from the Principal
Happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you for a wonderful start to the school year. If you read my messages you have read numerous times about being kind and showing gratitude. I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for everything you do to support your student and us in learning. Your gratitude is much appreciated.
Thank you for making MT a great place to work and call home.
I am grateful to be part of MTMS.
Please be safe and have a wonderful break.
Take care,
Jennifer Smith
Principal

Business Givebacks:
MTMS Families, thank you for supporting our fundraiser at Sombrero's last week! We made $400 through our partnership for a grand total of $3863 this school year to date! These funds will continue to support our amazing staff and students. The next restaurant fundraiser will be on Thursday, November 30th from 3-9pm with Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers so please mark your calendars and spread the word to your wolf packs during holiday get-togethers. Plus, you're invited to celebrate Kansas' birthday with us at Urban Air Lenexa from 4-8pm on Monday, January 29th with 20% of participating revenue on ultimate and platinum tickets going back to Monticello Trails. So, please save the date! Feel free to text Andrea Lerner with any questions (620)757-0349.
Winter Social:
We hope your student will join us for the Winter Social on Friday, December 15th. The 6th grade social will be right after school until 4:30pm. 7th and 8th graders can come back from 6-7:30pm. The theme is Pajama Party, so put on your loungewear and come party! Students can enjoy the DJ in the commons, games in the gym, snacks, photo booth, and raffle prizes. No RSVP or admission necessary. Hope to see you there!
And follow us on our website, BandApp, Facebook, and Instagram.

Illness, Covid and Influenza (the Flu)
Please report any symptoms of illness to the school.
Please be specific- report symptoms such as sore throat, nausea, and fever instead of reporting “ill” or “sick”. Giving symptoms helps with Health Department Reporting and to see illness trends at MTMS and in the district.
The transition to chillier weather often comes hand-in-hand with cold and flu season, but healthy habits can help protect everyone from getting or spreading germs. As we enter cold and flu season, we appreciate you encouraging these healthy habits with your children.
- If you have a child who is sick, we ask for your support by keeping them at home. Students and staff must be fever-free for 24 hours without the use of medication, and free of vomiting and/or diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school.
· If your student is diagnosed with Influenza (“the Flu”) or with COVID, they must remain at home for 5 days from the onset of illness, with return on day 6.
· If you have questions about your student’s health, please contact your school nurse. Additional information regarding health and wellness is available on the district website.
· Remind your child of important preventative measures for any illness, such as coughing into the sleeve, frequently washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and getting plenty of rest and fluids.
