Fronteras Spanish Immersion Charter School
Minutos de Mrs. Hutchins
Hello Fronteras Families!
Thank you for such an incredibly successful start to the new school year! We are so grateful for everyone’s cooperation and understanding!
I am so proud of and have incredible appreciation for all students required to wear masks this year. It’s a very different way to attend school; but again, because of how you as parents are handling everything, and the way you’ve raised your children, they came to school with positive attitudes and are ‘going with the flow’! Very, very impressive! And I’m equally proud of the younger students who are wearing masks, even though they are not required. Thank you Fronteras families!
It has been a blast catching up with students while they’re learning both indoors and out. Please enjoy the fun photos below from the first days back to school!
Wishing you a wonderful weekend! Think sun!

Gear Up for more Outdoor Time this School Year!
Specials will utilize Fronteras’ outdoor space as much as possible this year. Students will also be outdoors for recess daily and other class times. There is a woodland trail system across from the school so please turn in your permission slip as soon as possible. We are also very excited about the new ice rink! Students are welcome to bring their own ice skates (helmet required) if you want to start hunting for own pair. Adequate gear ensures students’ safety and engagement, so please read below for some helpful tips. Layers and synthetic/athletic gear will make children the most comfortable and safe. There are many benefits to extra outdoor time and we thank you for taking extra attention to help your student be prepared and safe. Outdoor time can help regulate stress and anxiety, provide both physical and mental health benefits while increasing attention spans. Alaska moto: “There’s no bad weather, just bad gear.” Here is a list of the ideal for comfort and safety outside but we understand everyone will do the best they can.
¨ Label all gear with name (teachers name or grade level can also help wandering items return to their owner)
¨ Water bottle filled at home and returned to school each day
¨ Mask breaks will be available outside, but students will need to wear their mask during instruction or times when they are not actively moving. A lanyard (example below) can be very helpful when students are taking a mask break. A buff is also a great option for outside. If using a lanyard please make sure there is a safety clasp on it so it is not a choking hazard while moving. A pocket is very helpful too for when students have an outdoor mask break.
¨ Please have two pairs of shoes for school- This is the ideal—or please have a plan to clean your gym shoes if they get dirty--an outdoor pair and a pair only for the gym to protect our floor. A pair that they can be comfortable wearing outdoors (depending on weather-rain shoes, athletic shoes ideally with synthetic/wool socks or an extra pair of socks, snow boots for winter. If your family is in need of gear, please let Sra. Hill know and she can reach out to local organizations that donate shoes to schools. If you have extra gym shoes, please send into our donation basket.
¨ Extra set of clothes– Please send in an extra set of clothes to be kept in the classroom or locker. This is necessary in case your child gets wet on the playground or otherwise. Ideally this will be stored in one bag for easy organization. A large zip lock works well for younger children that is clearly labeled with their name.
¨ Think layers, non-cotton and watch the weather: fleece, vests, windbreakers, hats, buffs, etc. Anything except cotton for Alaskan weather
¨ Rain gear during rainy/fall and spring season (coat with hood & pants or suit) & waterproof boots synthetic or wool socks work well with athletic shoes and/or an extra pair of dry socks to change into if they get wet, a hat or light gloves as needed, fleece layer
¨ Snow gear during winter season- Snowsuit or jacket snow pants/bibs (down/synthetic with a water proof shell), Check the length on the snow pants. If your child has grown and the pant length is high snow easily gets in boots and feet get colder quicker) synthetic/wool socks or an extra pair to change into, snow boots, gloves (very important in colder temperatures a snow glove that is water proof for snow play/not fleece) hat, buff or balaclava
Thrift stores/hand me downs/gear swaps with other families is a great affordable option.

Lunch
Lunch time reminders:
- No Top Ramen or Cup of Noodles unless precooked and stored in a thermos. Top Ramen and Cup of Noodles takes too long to microwave causing safety issues and not allowing enough time for your child to eat their lunch
- No lunch items requiring more than a minute to microwave
- Students need to bring a labeled water bottle every day to school
