Springmill STEM Family Update
October 22nd, 2023
Principal's Message
Good afternoon,
Monday starts our 2nd Quarter of this school year and we are looking forward to several fun activities for our students: Red Ribbon Week, the Book Fair & Literacy Night, Fall Parties, etc. While we are having some fun, this is also a critical time for learning during the school year. Parent & family support is so important for students to see the value in their education. One of the simplest ways to support students is by asking "What is one thing you learned today?" instead of "How was your day?". I know my own kids gave me the same answer every time I asked that, "Fine". By asking them questions about what they learned, students have to think back and remember what they did, then explain it to you. This is a critical step in processing the skills and information they saw that day, which helps their brain make connections to remember it more easily. What a difference a simple question can make!
Please be on the lookout for papers coming home about our upcoming events!
Sincerely,
Cara Will

STEM News
We have a winner!
Our very own teacher has won the Ohio Lottery Teacher of the Month Award! Mrs. Niedermier, our long time kindergarten teacher, was nominated for her dedication to her students and the teaching profession. She not only works hard to provide students with opportunities to engage in problem-based learning, she shares her knowledge and experience with colleagues and student teachers. Mrs. Niedermier is a shining start at Springmill STEM!
Ohio School Safety Month: Red Ribbon Week
Red Ribbon Week highlights the importance of living a drug-free life. It presents an opportunity for parents, educators, and communities to reinforce the drug-free messages they share with their children throughout the year. During Red Ribbon Week, youth and adults around the nation pledge to increase their knowledge by learning more about the destructive effects of drug abuse, including prescription drug misuse, and renew their commitment to live a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
This week, Springmill STEM will be celebrating RED RIBBON WEEK with theme dress up days and the opportunity for students to sign a pledge to grow up safe, healthy & drug free!
