BASH says 'Goodbye' and MSE says 'Hello'

Since January 2nd, 2014, Mr. Maoury has held the position of assistant principal here at BASH; however, starting on January 16th, he will be moving to principal at Middle School East! Although it is sad for those here at the high school to see him go, we are all very proud of his accomplishments and excited to see the great things he brings to East.
Before coming to BASH, Mr. Maoury had a wide range of experiences in his career; he taught English and was principal at two separate schools in Virginia before moving to Boyertown in search of a quiet, more community-oriented area. He certainly found what he was looking for and is proud of the "bear statue mentality" he gained through his years at Boyertown. He enjoys connecting to the community and has made many lifelong friendships throughout the years.
When deciding whether or not to take on the principal role, Mr. Maoury decided to return to his roots; he missed the full-time leadership role, as he was a student council sponsor, coach, and principal before moving to BASH. When the position at East opened up, Mr. Maoury knew it was the perfect opportunity for him. In addition to wanting more leadership opportunities, he also feels he will be able to use his extensive knowledge of the school district to fully prepare the middle schoolers for the next steps in their education. He hopes to positively impact his new students and help them become the best students they can be for the high school.
Moving to the middle school, Mr. Maoury is excited to "have more of an overview and be more hands-on with everything. Support and lead operations at East." But most importantly, to have the chance to "foster new opportunities."
Mr. Maoury says his favorite part of Boyertown is "connecting with the community inside and outside of the school," His greatest memory from this year so far was the link crew social. He will greatly miss the students and staff at the high school and is especially disappointed he won't be able to be a part of his high schooler's graduation.
The last few years at the high school wouldn't have been the same without Mr. Maoury; he has strived to make lasting connections with students and staff and has worked hard each day to give students the opportunity to learn. Although we are sad to see him go, we know East will be lucky to have him. Thank you for all you do Mr. Maoury!
Berks Benefitting Thon is a student-run organization at Penn State Berks. They hold different events and fundraisers to help raise money for families impacted by childhood cancer. They also help enhance the lives of the children. Their mission is to provide emotional and financial support, spread awareness, and ensure funding for critical research~ all in pursuit of a cure.
The organization reached out to schools in the area, focusing on 3rd and 4th grade students. Students were asked to create artwork representing our theme for the 2022-2023 school year - "Forever Fighting Forward." Three judges reviewed the artwork and chose their top three submissions.
BASD is proud to announce that Molly Rufibach, a 4th grader at Colebrookdale Elementary, won second prize in the 6th annual contest.
As a winner, Molly is invited to participate in the "Inspire the Night" dinner on January 13, 2023, where her artwork will be on display. Way to go Molly! #BEARInspirational
EES 2nd Grader Creates Art for BASD Holiday Card
Each year, before creating her annual holiday message, Mrs. Torchia waits to see the artwork selected for BASD's holiday card. This year, things worked out a bit differently. She had an article due to the Superintendent's Forum in The Reading Eagle in mid-December. The article not only ran in the paper, it ended up saying everything she wanted to say for all her family, friends, and the entire school community.
Similarly, Jack Wagner, EES 2nd grader, didn't design his artwork specifically for the district's holiday card. He created his artwork as a gift for the Boyertown Multi-Service and Meals on Wheels. Mrs. Yurkovich's art students created holiday greetings for the seniors throughout our community. Jack's card was selected as this year's district holiday card before the newspaper article was written AND before Mrs. Torchia decided to use the piece as part of her holiday message. It's funny how things turn out. His artwork was created as the perfect representation of a "simple holiday gifts!"

CSEd Week 2022
Students in Mrs. Mallozzi's 3rd grade class at GES created a parade float.
They then coded the Sphero robot to carry their float through an imitation Macy's Day Parade route.
Sphero is a spherical robot that can be paired with a tablet or smartphone. You can change Sphero's color, play different missions, and control Sphero's movements from a multitude of different apps for a customizable experience.*

Emergency Delays, Closings, and Dismissals
Heavy snowfall, other serious weather conditions, or other emergencies may make it necessary to delay openings, close schools, or dismiss early. In such cases, Boyertown Area School District will utilize our Infinite Campus Messenger service to notify our staff, our families, and our communities via text, email, and telephone.
Because the distribution of messages through IC Messenger can take some time due to the volume of messages being sent, we will post a pop-up message to all district homepages and update the district's Facebook page, Twitter, and Instagram. Please note that the pop-up messages and social media posts may appear before receipt of IC Messages. Finally, we will use KYW and WFMZ.
We ask that you please review any closing messages thoroughly for information regarding Flexible Instructional Days, 6 Day Cycle information, and other pertinent details.
