Motivational Speaker
As part of the PBIS program, Langston Middle School joined the Great Kindness Challenge for the month of January that included motivational speaker Mr. Jim "Basketball" Jones.
LMS PBIS
In December, the PBIS team awarded students the opportunity to make gingerbread houses! It was a wonderful reward to end the year with before winter break!
Stop the Hate Essay Work
LMS Social Studies students of Mrs. Lisa Thacker worked with Mrs. Coleman. Students spent six days working with her on their essays in conjunction with "Kindness Month."

Staff Wellness Initiative
As part of our commitment to staff wellness, Oberlin City School District is excited to announce a special fitness incentive program. For our staff members who join a local gym or workout facility, the District will contribute up to $25 of the first three months' membership fees. The District believes that a healthy body contributes to a healthy mind, and we want to support your well-being journey.
In addition to gym memberships, the District is now including yoga classes, online fitness subscriptions as eligible for the District's contribution of up to $25 off the first three months. We value our staff’s commitment to a healthier lifestyle.
House Bill 123
In 2021, Ohio’s 133rd General Assembly enacted House Bill 123, the “Safety and Violence Education Students (SAVE)" Act. The SAVE Students Act supports Ohio’s strategic plan for education with respect to school security and youth suicide awareness education and training. Within the next few weeks Oberlin City School District, we will be partnering with LCADA, Applewood Center and our own school counselors to support our students.

The Oberlin City School District Board of Education approved the five-year plan at the December 2023 Board of Education Meeting. To read the plan, click HERE.
The Board approved the 2024-2025 Budget to submit to the Lorain County Auditor at the January Organizational Meeting 2024. To see the Budget, click HERE.
In planning for the April 2024 solar eclipse, the District will purchase protective eyewear for all students/staff. The solar eclipse will be visible on Monday, April 8, 2024. School will NOT be in session that day for Oberlin City School District.

Dear Oberlin School Families,
🎉 A few highlights to celebrate:
- It's School Board Recognition Month and I'd like to send a special THANK YOU to the OCSD Board of Education: President Ms. Farah Emeka, Vice President Ms. Jo-Anne Steggall and members Ms. Rosa Gadsden, Mrs. Janet Garrett and Dr. Ken Stanley. We are so thankful for the work they do and their committee to our education system here at Oberlin City Schools.
- And speaking of the Board of Education, I'd like to give a warm welcome to our newest member, Mrs. Janet Garrett! Mrs. Garrett is a retired teacher where her last 24 years were spent at Eastwood Elementary in Oberlin. Welcome to the Board of Education, Mrs. Garrett, we look forward to working with you to support the best educational outcomes for our students!
- Congratulations to the OHS 2023 Scholastic Art Award Winners/Honorable Mentions for the Lorain County Region: Daisey Kullman, Mae Reese, Phoebe Shuck, Joe Holt, Hannah Dowling and Grace Petzak.
