Viking Family,

My sweet mom loved the Beatles, so I grew up listening to them and loving them, too. “Here Comes the Sun” is one of my favorite songs. It just reminds me of brighter days ahead. Sometimes school can feel heavy. Sometimes life experiences can feel heavy. Sometimes we just need to be reminded that tomorrow will bring a fresh start and that we can keep going even when it’s hard.

When the days seem long, it’s so important to have the promise of fun, sun, and rest to look forward to. That is why I am so excited to announce (just in case you didn’t know 🙃) that Spring Break 2025 is HERE! I’m just not sure it could have come at a better time! I know the students, faculty and staff at LVHS are so thankful that this well-earned break is finally upon us! We left the building yesterday thinking- Here comes the sun!

LVHS DECA students competed in the 2025 Texas Career Development Conference (CDC) competition in Dallas.

Two of our LVHS students (Team: Westin Walker & Riley Caller) received medals as Qualifiers (Event: Entrepreneurship Team Decision Making) and advanced to the International CDC competition to be held in Orlando, FL (April 26-29). Be sure to congratulate these future entrepreneurs if you see them!

LVHS hosted the Viking Relays this week and our athletes showed incredible grit and determination. Here are some highlights from the girls side:

• Jade Clements, Maddie Kassell, Kahlen Mathes, and Abby Tristan- 1st place- 4x400m set a new SCHOOL RECORD with a time of 4:01.03 and 1st place- 4x200 with a time of 1:43.96
• Lilah Smith- 1st place, Pole Vault @ 11'0
• Abby Tristan- 2nd place, Pole Vault @ 10'6

Highlights from the boys side:

• Swayde Griffin- 1st place- High Jump

• Matthew Purkey- 1st place- 300 Hurdles

• Devin Parsons, Brennon Brown, Camron Wright, Tripp Henderson - 3rd place & a School Record 43.1- 4x100 Relay

• Cameron Wright- 3rd place- Long Jump

• Koen Blakely- 1st place- Triple Jump & a School Record - 42'11 3/4"

• Brooks Jackson- 2nd Place- Triple Jump

• Graydon Burke- 2nd Place- Shot Put

• Devin Parsons, Garrison Houston, Miguel Rocha, Matthew Purkey- 2nd place- 4x400

Swayde Griffin set the USA number one time in the nation, in the 110 hurdles, with a time of 13.52. This also broke the school record previously set by him and broke the Texas A&M Track all time meet record. Great job!

The LVISD Family showed up BIG TIME for the Canales family collecting hundreds of diapers and wipes for their precious Cori Beth. Mr. Canales wants to express his heartfelt gratitude to everyone who donated and supported them as they walked through this difficult but hopeful season.

Congrats to Saylor Stamos and Henry Sisemore who were both named to the TABC 4A All Region Team! We are proud of you!

Students in history classes made board games about different time periods. Anatomy and Physiology students wrote and illustrated children's books about the digestive system. We love it when Vikings put their learning to creative uses!

LVHS Class of 2024 Graduate, Aly Wray is in her second semester at West Point. She is a member of Company D3 (Go Dinos!) and the Sandhurst Black and Gold Team. She also participates in the West Point EMS Education Program as an EMT-B and BLS instructor. She is studying Biology and will be attending Cadet Field Training and Air Assault School this summer. Pictured here with her proud mom, Lea Wray, who is the English Department Head and teacher extraordinaire at LVHS.

LVHS Class of 2022 graduate, Cadence Sansom, continued her track career at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. This week, she was named NCAA Division 2 Second Team All-American for her pole vaulting prowess! She set a new school record for the Bisons at the National Indoor meet with a vault of 13-04.25. Thanks for making us proud, Cadence!

Congrats to Zane Carson, who’s headed to the STATE powerlifting meet in Abilene! He tied for 2nd place in the 275-pound weight class with a total of 1400 lbs!

Olsen Cratty and Lane Eleuterius represented the Vikings in Las Vegas last week as they competed in the S3DA Archery Shoot. Olsen shot a 269 and Lane had a 282! A perfect score is 300 so our Vikings did a wonderful job!

Counselors will be working steadily this semester to plan with students and parents regarding next year's coursework. Please encourage your students to check their emails and pay attention to announcements to set up these crucial meetings with their counselors. Parents are welcome to attend the 1:1 meetings, as well. Be on the lookout here and in your inbox for more information.

The LVHS boys Blue team participated in the Salado HS Golf Invitational at Mill Creek Golf Club in Salado, TX on March 12th. The tournament included 16 teams and 78 individual players. The Vikings placed 4th, as a team, and had 1 player in the top ten medalists of the tournament.

Bennett Lane, from Lago Vista, placed third, with a round score of 78. Other members of the team who participated in the tournament (with their scores), were Dalton McKinney (92), Reed Ray (93), Aidan Velasquez (97), and Mikah Helton (107).

The Lady Vikings had a successful day at the Colin Clark Memorial Tournament at Delaware Springs. The Blue Team set a new low score of 358. New PRs were set by Jenna Janson 89, Bailey Burlew 92, and Mia Garcia 108 - Adriana Owen had the low round for the day with an 87 which matched her PR.
