Blue Jay Flyer
August 30, 2023
From the Principal's Desk...
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are SO CLOSE to our goal for our Red, Walk and Blue Jay Walk-a-Thon this week. Please keep sending in donations. It is going to be a great day at St. John’s celebrating our students and remembering Cathy Dreyer. The committee has many things planned for the students.
Just a couple of reminders:
Students are permitted to be out of uniform on Friday for the walk-a-thon.
Students are encouraged to wear red, white and blue to support our theme. Please keep in mind students need to be dressed appropriately for a Catholic School. Here are a few things to keep in mind: no tank tops, no leggings (unless a shirt covers both the front and back), no inappropriate sayings/gestures, and students must have on appropriate length shorts.
Students will be released at 12pm on Friday; therefore, lunch will not be served.
Mt. Healthy bus will not be running on Friday afternoon due to the early dismissal. We will check with the other two transportation departments to see if they will be running.
Any student who turns in $30 or more will be out of uniform on a date to be determined by the walk committee.
If we reach our goal of $10,000, we will be off school the whole week of Thanksgiving.
Thank you for all the support thus far! I am excited to walk with the students on Friday! I think it will be a great day for all students and staff.
Lastly, don’t forget to fill out your eforms on Option C. We still have about 30 students with missing forms. Please get these in ASAP. Contact me @ cweinheimer@stjohnsdrschool.org if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Courtney Weinheimer

Walkathon September 1
Last call Blue Jays....send in those walkathon donations on Thursday!!!
While our totals so far are very promising, we have not quite reached our goal of $10,000! We are certain that all of you would love to have Monday, November 20th off school, making Thanksgiving break a FULL WEEK! If every student turns in at least $30, we will meet our goal, earn an extra day off school and make the building improvements that Cathy Dreyer wanted for St. John's.
Let's do this!!!
INCENTIVES TO REACH $10,000 GOAL
- Out of Uniform Day: Every student who turns in $30 by Friday, August 31st, can be out of uniform (date to be determined).
- Pizza Party: The GRADE in K-3 and 4-8 with the highest turn in amount will each receive a pizza party.
- $100 Shopping Cent$ gift certificate: The school family with the highest turn in total will receive a gift certificate.
- NO SCHOOL on Monday, November 20: If we reach our goal of $10,000, school will be closed on November 20, giving us a FULL WEEK off for Thanksgiving.
Overdue School Forms
All school forms were due last Friday, August 25. If you have not turned in your child's school forms from the Open House packets and submitted your electronic forms on Option C, please do so as soon as possible. If you have any questions or need assistance logging into Option C, please contact the school office.

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
A few important reminders about arrival and dismissal procedures.
ARRIVAL PROCEDURES
Students entering through the parish center doors:
- Doors will open at 7:40, but students will not be released to classrooms until 7:45.
- Cars should enter the driveway between the church and cemetery.
- Cars should wait in line until you are between the Music Room door and just south of the Parish Center doors before letting your student out of the car.
- For safety reasons, all students should exit the PASSENGER side of the car.
- Adults should not exit the car to help any students get out of the car or to say goodbye to students.
- The car rider drop off is a fast-paced line intended to move quickly. If you would like to hug and say goodbye to your student, please feel free to park across the street and walk your student to the blue awning.
- Faculty members are outside each morning to help with the flow of traffic and to ensure that all cars are following the safety protocols in place. Please listen and follow their instructions. Being rude or refusing to follow proper procedures will not be tolerated.
Students entering at the blue awning:
- Doors will open at 7:45
- Parents must walk the student to the blue awning. For safety reasons, please do not allow any students to cross the street alone.
CAR RIDER DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
- Cars should enter the driveway between the church and cemetery and get in a line.
- The line closest to the building is reserved for preschool parents since they dismiss at 2:45.
- Parents should pull up in line and turn their car off. All parents should come forward to wait for their student(s).
- All cars MUST wait until ALL students are in their car and the first row is dismissed.
- The only car that is permitted to enter the car rider lot from the exit near the playground is the VIP Parking Spot Winner. This spot is auctioned off at the St. John’s Spectacular and the winner gets to use the reserved spot at dismissal for an entire year. This is also the only car that may leave before all students are securely in cars.
- Parents are not permitted to walk down from across the street to pick up their child(ren).
- Faculty members are outside each afternoon to help with the flow of traffic and to ensure that all cars are following the safety protocols in place. Please listen and follow their instructions. Being rude or refusing to follow proper procedures will not be tolerated.

St. Xavier
X-Perience Nights
St. Xavier High School hosts two X-perience Nights (October 17 and 23). Your school and all 7th & 8th grade families will receive an invitation to attend. The evening begins in our Reynolds Room at 6:30 p.m. and concludes at 8 p.m. Parents will hear a presentation about the mission of St. Xavier from a current student, a parent, faculty member, and an admissions representative – with ample time for questions and answers afterward. Students will learn about St. X by engaging in experiential learning opportunities that will be directed by current St. X students. Families have found these nights to be an opportunity to receive in-depth information and hear different perspectives about St. X. We ask that families register in advance.
Open House
On Sunday, November 12 from 1 to 5 p.m. prospective students and families are invited to attend our annual Open House. Tours are given by current students, allowing families time to speak with teachers, co-curricular moderators, and students about their experiences.
Shadowing
Shadowing is an integral role in a student’s decision-making process. The X-perience Day program provides interested eighth grade students with a firsthand experience on campus. The program runs from September through December. Prospective students will be hosted by an Ambassador of Excellence, a freshmen or sophomore qualified to speak on the various aspects of St. Xavier High School. On these days at 8:30 a.m., parents hear a presentation from a St. Xavier representative about programs, tuition assistance, scholarships, and have the opportunity to tour the school. Families may register for shadowing on our website at https://www.stxavier.org/admissions/visit.
