Principal Message
Hi PES Families,
It's the season of love, and I want to express my deep affection for being the principal at PES, where I have the privilege of working with our outstanding staff and wonderful students. We've recently concluded our winter assessments, and I couldn't be prouder of the dedication and hard work shown by both our students and teachers. Next week, we're excited to invite you to our Love of Learning event to celebrate together. Please see the details below.
Additionally, we're reaching out to our families for help in sprucing up our playground. Join us at our upcoming PTO meeting if you have creative ideas or would like to contribute.
Towards the end of the month, we'll be heading over to the high school for a fun-filled evening featuring pizza, games, incredible prizes, and even some math activities! We encourage all of you to come and enjoy the festivities.
On another note, unfortunately, our attendance numbers are currently declining. Presently, only 68% of our students are considered regular attenders, having missed fewer than 12 days this year. While we understand that illness and other factors can impact attendance, our goal is to increase the percentage of regular attenders to 90%.
Let's work together to ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive at PES. Thank you for your continued support we hope to see you all soon!
Warmly,
Shawna Schleif

Jackson County SART Erin's Law Lessons
The week of February 12-16 we will have a special guest teacher in all of our classes who will be teaching our second round of important lessons regarding bullying and sexual violence prevention. For the last several years we have partnered with Jackson County Sexual Assault Response Team (JC SART) which has a team of wonderful educators trained to help students learn these age-appropriate topics. Below you will find a curriculum overview of grade-level topics. These required trainings come from Erin's Law.

Future Chef's National Challenge
The cook-off will be held on Thursday March 21st, 2024 this year to give our kids the opportunity to participate in the National Competition!! This competition is for all Phoenix-Talent Elementary kids 3rd grade to 5th grade.
The major change this year is that we are asking for students to submit their recipes online. This will help eliminate any recipe mistakes & help ensure that our finalists' recipes make it to the national competition. A paper copy can be provided if needed. This portal is open and closes February 18th. Paper forms are due today, February 9th. Finalists will be selected in February, we are hoping to have 2 – 3 finalists from each school. Those finalists will be formally invited to a Cuilinary Competitions "Cook-Off" on Thursday, March 21st at Phoenix High School.
All Finalists will receive a framed plaque, recipe book, Future Chef shirt, apron, and hat.
Please look for the flyer sent home in your student's backpack to register, or click on the flyer below. If you need a paper form please contact your Food Service GM, Amy Honts at Amy.Honts-Stark@sodexo.com.
Good luck to all of our Jr. Pirate Chefs!
