IB Campus Updates
Principal's Notes, January 16, 2024
Happy New Year to the IB Campus! Our Learner Profile trait for this month is being Balanced. "As IB Learners we understand the importance of balancing different aspects of our lives-intellectual, physical and emotional-to achieve well-being for ourselves and others. We recognize our interdependence with other people and with the world in which we live." This month, our 9th grade are engaged in an interdisciplinary project where they are committing to daily creative or physical experiences. They will track their physical well being through heart rate and blood pressure. By keeping a journal, they will track their mental and emotional well being as they weave these positive habits into their lives.
"Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance and order and rhythm and harmony." Thomas Merton.
Homework Club
Homework Club takes place every Wednesday. All students are welcome. Meet in the library 3:15-4:15. Semester Grades are due Friday January 19. This gives students the rest of the week to complete any missing work. Now would be the time to send your student to Homework Club! Email jsaladik@schoollane.org or cweber@schoollane.org

The middle school basketball season is underway. The girls and boys basketball teams had their first game of the season yesterday, January 11th against Northwood. Both teams showed determination and skill! The next game will be Wednesday, January 17th against New Foundations.
IB Diploma Program Science Project
As part of our commitment to the IB Group 4 (Science) practical program, the Group 4 Project offers a unique opportunity for interdisciplinary collaboration in sciences. This year's theme is - "The Science of Sustainability." Students enrolled in an IB Science course have been working on ideas surrounding the science of sustainability by researching and formulating a product that will have a positive environmental impact, from zero emission planes to at home gardening systems, students will present their ideas/proposals on Jan 30 from 6:30 to 7 pm. Each group (7 groups in total) will present to the audience. As the audience, you will have the opportunity to decide which of these designs is best. Please join us for a night of learning how we might become more environmentally friendly in 2024. Student groups are competing for the price of SLCS Science GOAT (greatest of all time).
Two New Debate Clubs
An ambitious and enthusiastic group of students in middle and high school are bringing Debate to the IB Campus. As an IB school, we are called to see issues and events from multiple perspectives. Participating in Debate means you might have to research and argue a point of view you don't necessarily hold. This is an important intellectual exercise. We hope to see a lot of students come out to join these clubs. Our Middle School Debate leaders have experience in Model UN. Students in Model UN are assigned countries to represent. They have to research and work towards a resolution with each other.
