WBSD Weekly Update

Friday, January 20, 2023
Dear Team WB,
We are making a few changes to the STEAM program at Roosevelt next year. We are adding additional STEAM opportunities, beginning with Kindergarten for the 2023-2024 school year. This opportunity is only available for incoming kindergarteners. Interested families will need to apply between January 23 - February 21 and meet the criteria for this exciting new program. If you are interested apply here!
Kindergarteners who chose not to participate will still benefit from the school-wide integration of STEAM learning experiences into all content areas as well as during their STEAM-focused iCenter special.
Please share this update with any and all of your Roosevelt friends, especially those with incoming Kindergarten students.
Thank you!
DAR Good Citizen Award
WBHS student, Kasey Loudermilk, is the recipient of the DAR Good Citizen Award. The Piety Hill Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, honored 14 local high school recipients for the Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest.
The award recognizes and rewards individuals who possess good citizenship qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. These students are selected by their teachers and peers because they demonstrate these qualities to an outstanding degree. Congratulations, Kasey!
WBMS Student Interviews Mort Crim
Max caught up with Mort Crim to discuss his life as a broadcast journalist, author, producer, and speaker. Mort's advice to students, "Increase your thirst for knowledge and act like a sponge." To view the Mort Crim interview, click here. Max Cool Gamer Columbus is a WBMS student and is part of the FIRST Robotics Middle School team. Be sure to check out his YouTube channel. Thank you Max!
What it Means to be a Contributor!
Three of our WBHS DECA students (Ryan Lynch, Jack Stuit, and Tage Seglund) have campaigned this school year to raise money for MDA. Each summer, kids living with neuromuscular disease are able to attend MDA overnight Summer Camp thanks to generous supporters such as yourself! Due to their efforts along with our DECA chapter, they were able to cover the fees for two children to attend MDA Summer Camp as it returns in person this summer after Covid. Nice work! We love to see the 4C's in action!
Mental Health Resources
WBSD has partnered with Parent Guidance.org to give parents free access to resources and helpful information. We have shared this information with our families. We hope that it will be useful for some of you as well!
ParentGuidance.org is an online service by licensed therapists that provides trusted and specialized courses, professional support, and a safe community for parents to learn how to support their children and get answers to mental health questions.
WB Middle School Robotics
WBMS Robotics ended the season with a celebratory banquet at Gino's Pizzeria in Keego Harbor. Thank you to ALL of the parent coaches and volunteers for creating a space for students to collaborate, critically think, and build friendships. Check out the amazing video below recapping the season!
Congratulations WBHS Band Members!
