Happy Black History Month!
Breakthrough strives to create an inclusive community that not only embraces diversity and difference, but simultaneously celebrates it. We are excited to celebrate Black History Month this February, and we encourage you to deepen your own understanding of the many contributions bestowed upon our nation from members of the African diaspora.
In addition, we will be highlighting our rich Black History here in Colorado, and some prominent African Americans, as well as movements, that have helped shape not only Colorado history, but national history. Follow us on social media to stay connected and make sure you don’t miss out on any Black History X Breakthrough!

Voices of our Community: Student & Teaching Fellow Perspectives
Student Perspective: Alex
Current 7th Grade Student- Class of 2026
"To me, Breakthrough means commitment and dedication. I continue to be committed to Breakthrough because the community, the kindness and the teachers show me that they want me to be there. I love how they are all about getting kids to the places they want to go and helping them achieve all that they dream about. Breakthrough also provides the push that I need and allows me to build community by relying on others around me."
Teaching Fellow Perspective: Randy
"As a student I first applied because there was something that I seen in my sister that attended before me, that made me think that this program could actually help me grow and become successful. When you are done with your six years as a Breakthrough student, you are able to come back and give that same energy to the students as a staff member and that is amazing. My Breakthrough experience has definitely made me want to go into teaching. Often teachers don't fully internalize the concept of teaching, or the role they have in a student's life. Breakthrough has helped me to understand the things that really matter when you are in the classroom."
