WE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE YOUR FEEDBACK FOR OUR 2022-203 SCHOOL GOALS:
Hello Parents,
We are in the process of collecting feedback from parents, teachers, and students to select our school goals for the 2022-2023 school year. We will be using GCPS' new strategic priorities for the next 5 years to select our goals. These strategic priorities are summarized in the "Blueprint for the Future".
Please read this 1-page document to learn more about the Blueprint for the Future, and then use this feedback link to share your feedback with us.
Thank you,
Dr. Hernandez

QUARTER 1 PBL DRIVING QUESTIONS:
MESSAGE FROM BAND:
Message from the Band Director
Hello! My name is Nick DiPaola and I am the band director at Coleman Middle School. This is your child’s last call to join band this school year. Anyone can join and no previous band or music reading experience is needed! Band class currently is on A days so if your child wants to try something new, band is an excellent choice!
Band is more than just playing an instrument. It challenges each child to use the creative side of their brain while, at the same time, multi-tasking and learning something new! History shows us the kind of character development band can provide. Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, was a euphonium player. President Reagan was the Drum Major of his high school marching band, and President Clinton, a saxophone player, was a member of the Arkansas All-State band for three years.
All of the current data clearly states that students involved in music education academically out perform their non-musical peers. Even more importantly, studies are showing that music students are less likely to engage in risky behaviors.
Instruments the students can select from are the following:
Flute
Oboe
Clarinet
Alto Saxophone
Trumpet
Trombone
Euphonium
Tuba
At the end of the semester, students will have the opportunity to switch to the following instruments:
Bass Clarinet
Bassoon
Tenor Saxophone
Bari Saxophone
French Horn
Percussion
If your child is interested in joining band, please email me at nick.dipaola@gcpsk12.org
I look forward to seeing your child in the band room!
Nick DiPaola

UPDATES ON ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL:
- School hours are 9:15 AM to 4:00 PM.
- Review Coleman MS procedures for arrival and dismissal on this LINK, -Including a video for procedures for car riders.
- Students will report to the cafeteria upon arrival if they will have breakfast. Otherwise, they will go to homeroom.
For question, concerns, and dispatch services about buses, call transportation: 770-513-6686
Please be patient at car rider's lane. Car rider procedures will improve as all new students and parents learn. Coleman MS has a unique location across downtown Duluth, surrounded by city streets, and it does not have a big parking lot, so our car rider procedures are impacted by those factors.
Please do not stop your car on one of the streets surrounding the school and motion your student to get across a street. This is a traffic violation and an unsafe practice.
If your student is a walker, they must come through the front of the building as we have staff supervising their exit. Please teach your children how to use the crosswalk on 120 Hwy. This crosswalk is not part of Coleman MS's property.
Note about bus riders:
Buses sometimes run late at the beginning of the school year. Our buses drop off elementary school students first and at the beginning of the year younger students and parents need time to adjust to schedules and routines. We publish late buses and departure time on social media to be more accurate as we post from the bus lane.
Thank you for your understanding.
