October 2023 Newsletter
October is here!
Hello Pocopson Families!
Hope everyone is now getting into the routine of the school year, and has been enjoying all the fun activities we've had over the last several weeks to kick off the year.
A couple of key pieces of information:
- Fall picture day is TOMORROW ~ October 5th. We will be doing class photos this year, so keep in mind that your child's full outfit could be visible in the class photo. We would recommend, for this reason, not participating in tomorrow's district-wide spirit theme of "zoom day." I know this is also helpful for many families (like mine) who have children who do not prefer to wear "real pants" or "dressy shoes." 🤣
- Today we hosted "Coffee With a Cop" in the Pocopson lobby. It was a great opportunity for our local officers to stop by for coffee, bagels, and delicious Oso Sweet scones, and a chat with Dr. Beaver, staff members, and our PTO board. We then dropped off the leftover treats at the Avondale State Police Barracks. All the officers loved being shown appreciation from the community!
- Friday 10/6 is the 1st Friday of the month and, as always, our PES Spirit Day! Don't forget your PES gear, or your red and blue!
October is jam-packed, so be sure to read through this newsletter completely, and keep your eyes out for a mid-month newsletter to highlight Halloween and some other events coming later in October.
As always, please don't hesitate to reach out for any reason.

October Monthly Food Drive for KACS
Each month, we partner to provide needed items to the Kennett Food Cupboard. This month, we are collecting 1-2 lb bags of rice. You can drop off your donation at school, or send it in with your student!
FOCUS Committee Volunteer Needed!
What is FOCUS: FOCUS is a committee in the Unionville Chadds Ford School District, organized by parents in collaboration with UCF District administration. FOCUS provides information and education to parents and the community through seminars, workshops, webinars, and posted resources.
Mission: The mission of FOCUS is to promote well-being for families and healthy choices for youth in our community.
We are looking for a PES representative to be a liaison between Pocopson Elementary and FOCUS.
This person would attend the FOCUS meetings and PTO general meetings. The representative would report out to the PTO on FOCUS events, as well as bring information back to FOCUS about events the parents and community of Pocopson Elementary would like to see. FOCUS meets 4 times per year in the evening at Patton (only 3 meetings remain this school year) and aims to hold 4 events per year for the community. There is no pressure to help with events, but our hope would be that the representative would help with one of the four events during the year.
Email us for more info, or if you'd be interested in volunteering!
