Leyden hosts Safety Week, September 5 - 8
Safety Week will take place the week of September 4. Not only do these drills meet the state requirements, but they help Leyden students and staff know what to expect should the need arise. Please note that there may be a visible presence from the first responders during the drills.
We recognize that running drills, particularly a lockdown drill, may prompt many feelings. Students who have concerns or need additional support during this week should reach out to the dean's office.
Schedule:
Monday, 9/4 - No School, Labor Day
Tuesday, 9/5 - Talk Through With Classes, Education & Discussions
Wednesday, 9/6 - Lockdown, Hold-in-Place Drills, Period 10
Thursday, 9/7 - Severe Weather Drill, Period 2
Friday, 9/8 - Fire Drill, Period 3
Leyden hosts first Bilingual Parent meeting of the year
The first Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee (BPAC) meeting of the school year will be held September 13, at 6 p.m. in the Eagle’s Wing at West Leyden.
BPAC is a committee that supports and promotes the social, emotional, and academic growth, and development of our bilingual community. The organization represents the interest and needs of our bilingual community at Leyden through participation in the educational process and in the decisions to be made that will have an impact on the future of our students.
Leyden values Parent/Guardian input
Parents/guardians still have a chance to offer important feedback about their student's experience at school through Leyden's Humanex survey. The purpose of this new survey is to gain feedback that is specific to Leyden, as we seek to enhance the educational experience for our students.
The survey is expected to take about five minutes to complete and is completely anonymous and confidential. No individual responses will be reported; rather, the responses will be reported in an aggregate fashion. The survey closes September 11. Please plan to complete the survey in one sitting, as the page will time out if left inactive, requiring you to start over.

West Leyden unveils student-inspired art
On Tuesday, August 29, at an all-school assembly, students got their first look at artwork that will be on permanent display in the halls of West Leyden. In a design collaboration process led by professional artist Victor Montañez, a group of students and staff came together throughout the spring and summer to create five interchangeable panels that tell the story of their school.
“The art installation is aimed at continuing to create an educational environment that represents the cultures of the students who attend school here,” said Principal Dr. Arturo Senteno. “We want our students to be involved, connected and kind, and we feel this art helps ground us all in what unifies us as West Leyden.”
