We have received our final report from our IB Primary Years Program Evaluation Visit that took place in December! After spending three full days meeting with teachers, administrators, parents, students, and board members, and observing lessons being taught in all of our PYP classrooms, we received an extremely positive report from our evaluating team. Our evaluators highlighted many things we are doing well, including “promoting active, lifelong, and compassionate learners,” “implementing the program with fidelity and integrity,” and creating a “healthy, nurturing environment,” among others. Students learned to give a basic geographic description of our area, talk about our climate, and give examples of possible activities that someone could do in the different seasons and weather.

9th graders spent Tuesday and Wednesday at Camp Daggett for a fun overnight outdoor education experience. Despite the rain and snow they kept busy with a high ropes course, team building challenges, SEL games, cards, catchphrase, SMORES and a serious game of tag in the dark.

Whether it’s to learn more about the work of this committee or the other activities of this newly-formed organization, please join fellow parents, guardians, and grandparents in the High School Library this Monday, May 8th at 6pm. In keeping with parent organizations across the country, the May meeting will include an election of 2023-24 officers. This group would love to see you Monday night.

The competition is open to anyone in Michigan with an innovative idea that uses a new or existing technology to improve teaching or learning, as long as they are in the idea or pre-seed stage and have a connection to Michigan’s k-12 education ecosystem. We are currently accepting written submissions until May 14th, with five finalists being selected for a live pitch event on June 29, 2023. There is a total of $22,000 in startup grants available to the finalists, with the top three finishers also receiving legal support from Foster Swift and marketing support from Michigan Creative. In addition, we are organizing an Innovation Bootcamp the week of July 17th, designed to introduce educators to entrepreneurship, innovation, and edtech.

To support our students’ social emotional needs and mental health, we are using a video-based social emotional learning (SEL) curriculum from Move This World. I’m excited to share that you’ll be able to access this helpful curriculum at home, too!

Social emotional learning is how students learn to process and manage emotions as well as important social skills. It includes everything from goal setting to stress management, and it provides both children and adults with tools they can use to express themselves authentically and safely. SEL helps students build healthy relationships, communicate effectively, and live a meaningful life.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our Community Blood Drive. The results are in: 24 Donors registered to donate, INCLUDING 10 FIRST-TIME DONORS! We successfully collected 22 pints aka "units" for local patients in need. This equates to helping SAVE 66 LIVES! Well Done LPS!

Take-home Covid tests are available at the front office. We are happy to distribute these to families upon request.

Seniors

Seniors should have books returned by Friday, May 12th or be billed. Bills should be paid/books returned before they get their diplomas.

K-11:

Last day for book checkout is Friday, May 26.

Traverse City Noon Rotary Club JJ Beckett Access-ABILITY Committee is looking to share a community resource that is available to persons with disabilities. The committee's primary focus is to assist individuals to overcome limits caused by a disability and improve access to a fuller life.
