January Newsletter
Happy New Year, Kuser Families!
As we usher in the new year, let's reflect on the remarkable achievements of 2023! Together, we are making strides in the right direction, forging a stronger sense of community. Our collective accomplishments are a testament to the unity within our school. The past four months have been an exciting journey, marked by notable achievements:
- Revamped arrival and dismissal procedures for a safer environment.
- Introduced a parent-led PTA to foster collaboration and involvement.
- Heightened family engagement through engaging PTA events.
- Fostered parent participation through student-led activities.
- Restructured and improved Parent-Teacher Conferences.
- Achieved positive progress in overall attendance.
- Enhanced campus safety by upgrading fencing around the premises.
- Ongoing interior painting to create a conducive learning environment.
- Instituted All School Meetings to enhance communication and unity.
- Witnessed improvements in overall student behavior and discipline.
Our journey is just beginning, and the possibilities are limitless. We are actively planning more events to boost parent participation. Stay informed and involved, as we collaborate as a team to support our students in achieving academic, social, and emotional success and growth!
Sincerely,
Sra. Peake
Lunch & Snacks
Dear Kuser Families,
Recognizing the importance of providing our students with well-balanced, healthy meals, we've observed a pattern where many students tend to consume their snacks first, often neglecting the main portion of their meals. This can contribute to unhealthy eating habits, fatigue, and early-day hunger.
To address this, we've decided to offer ice cream exclusively on Fridays. While other snacks remain available throughout the week, students are now required to finish their lunch before indulging in snacks. For those sending meals from home, we kindly ask you to minimize the inclusion of sugary snacks. Additionally, we urge you to discuss with your students the potential dangers of sharing food, as unawareness of peers' allergies may pose risks.
Below, you'll find the menus for the month of December. Your cooperation and support are greatly appreciated!
Sincerely,
Sra. Peake
Attendance
Every Day Counts!
Every Day Counts!
Dear Kuser Families,
As we navigate through the school year, I would like to emphasize the importance of fostering a holistic and collaborative approach to education. When students, parents, teachers, and the community unite to create a positive and supportive environment, it lays the foundation for improved academic outcomes and personal growth for everyone involved.
Our overarching theme for this academic year is "Every Day Counts." This theme encapsulates seven guiding principles that will shape our journey together. I invite you to join me on a reflective exploration of our theme, specifically focusing on attendance this month.
"Every Day Counts" underscores the significance of consistent attendance and active engagement in the educational process. Regular attendance ensures that students fully benefit from valuable learning experiences. Each of us plays a role in making every day count, and I encourage you to consider the following when making decisions about attendance:
Schedule doctor appointments outside of school hours or at the beginning or end of the day to minimize time away from instruction.
Plan family vacations during school breaks.
Minimize tardies, as arriving late disrupts the learning for all students.
Reduce early dismissals, recognizing that leaving school early results in a loss of valuable instruction time.
Keep your student home only for the following reasons: vomiting, diarrhea, or fever.
If you need assistance, please reach out; we will gladly help.
Included below are September, October, November, and December attendance data charts! We are launching an educational campaign to shed light on the detrimental effects of chronic absenteeism on academic performance and its long-term impact on student success. Chronic absenteeism, defined as having 18 or more absences for the entire school year, can significantly hinder a student's academic performance, impact reading levels, and affect their social-emotional well-being. The repercussions can lead to repeated behavior issues, suspensions, and an increased risk of dropping out of school.
Several families have received attendance letters, calls, or invitations to meet with me as part of our tiered levels of support. These interactions aim to explore the best ways to support our students and families in cultivating healthy attendance habits.
At the elementary level, we can collaborate to diminish the effects of chronic absenteeism. By developing and instilling healthy attendance habits and providing targeted support, we ensure that all students have the best opportunities to succeed at Kuser and beyond. This collaborative effort requires us all to work together to ensure that our students are present and engaged every healthy day from 8:45 AM to 3:30 PM.
Remember, we are here to support you and your students!
How Low Can We Go?
Kuser Families,
Together, we have the power to achieve remarkable feats! Lowering the chronic absenteeism percentage is beneficial for us all, especially when it comes to attendance, which is closely tied to student achievement. Historically, we've faced challenges with chronic absenteeism and lower academic performance. However, we can make a difference! Through collective efforts, we can ensure our students thrive at Kuser and succeed in their future academic endeavors.
I am genuinely inspired and invigorated by the outstanding work we've accomplished and the achievements we've celebrated. I invite you to join me, our dedicated staff, and our students in going above and beyond to secure success and improve the statisticsβnot for my sake but for our students. They deserve our unwavering commitment and dedicated efforts!
Let's challenge the status quo, dismantle barriers, and work together to uplift our students. I am enthusiastic about reshaping the future and trajectory of our students!
Sincerely,
Sra. Peake
