Feeling Sick
It is that time of year for colds, flus, and sickness. How do you determine whether or not to send your scholar to school? Below are the some points to consider when sending your scholar to school.
1. If your scholar has a fever, vomitting, or diarehha, please keep them at home.
2. Any scholar with the above symptoms cannot return until they are symptom free for 24 hours.
3. Any scholar taking medication to reduce a fever, needs to stay home until they are fever free, without medication, for 24 hours.
4. In the event that your scholar gets sick at school or breaks a fever, parents will be called immediately and the scholar will need to be picked up from school. If they are bus riders, they will not be able to ride the bus home.
Some frequently asked questions:
1. If my scholar's only symptom is a cough, can they come to school? Yes
2. Can I send my scholar to school with cough medicine or cough drops? Yes, but they must be turned into the front office for safe keeping and distribution. A form will need to be filled out in the office.
3. If my scholar's only symptom is a runny nose, can they come to school? Yes.
4. If my scholar complains of an upset stomach, but they have not had any vomitting, can they come to school? Yes
A Thought from Principal Mayer
This week I share point three from the article, "The Five Things Most Teacher Really Want Parents to Know," written by Amanda Hohnson of www.study.com.
The third thing teachers would like parent to know is regarding communication. Communication between parents and teachers is a great tool for scholar success. In the past, if a parent wanted the teacher to know something, they would write a note and hope the scholar remembered to give it to the teacher. The teacher would respond by writing a note and hope that the scholar would give it to the parents. This process was lucky to happen in the same day.
In today's world, we want things done quickly. Parents can email, call, or text a teacher. What used to take a day, at least, now could take just minutes. Because communication is so rapid, and we are now used to getting responses within minutes, if a teacher does not respond immediately, it appears that the teacher is not paying attention to the scholar. I am here to say that this is simply not true.
Parents need to understand that the teacher is dealing with a group of scholars. You can bet if you are sending a text or email, there are probably 10 or more parents doing the same. Please give the teachers time to respond to your communication. The teachers are so busy teaching, that immediate responses are not ideal because they take time away from the scholars.
In the fast world of communication, be patient. That is easier said then done. If a teacher does not respond right away, that is okay. Give them 24-48 hours to respond to your email. If they do not respond within that time frame, send them a reminder. If your email or text message is time sensitive, for example, your child needs to ride the bus home, instead of being a car rider, then take a moment to call the school. If it is not time sensitive, then please be patient, as our teachers are busy from the time the scholars walk into the building, until they walk out of the building.
On a final note, on behalf of the entire PLA@PromisePrep staff, we wish you all a very Happy Holiday Season. This will be the last weekly note until our return to school on January 9th. Please take this time off to enjoy with your families. We look forward to seeing you all on January 9th.
Happy Holidays!!
