Second Semester Updates: Schedules & Changes
Second Semester Updates: Schedules & Changes
Greetings Eckstein Students and Families,
We have released draft second semester schedules for view. Final semester two schedules will be provided to students the week of January 29th. Students can view their draft second semester schedule on the Source.
Second Semester does not begin until February 1st, 2023. Here is the Semester 2 Lunch Schedule. Please note some period 4 class periods are changing lunches at the semester. Reasons include the need to balance out numbers at first and second lunch, change in grade levels of the classes for elective teachers that require a certain lunch placement, or if a student has a schedule change for their period 4 class where lunch is scheduled.
If your student would like to request an elective change for semester two, please do so on the Microsoft Form to Request a Schedule Change by December 15, 2023 by end of day. By releasing schedules in advance, we are able to examine and do our best to accommodate schedule change requests prior to the semester beginning. This makes for a much smoother transition into the new semester. As long as your request is submitted by December 15th we will be able to take time and look at them as we return from break. The deadline is to request a change, not for changes to be completed by.
Please do note that requests to change a schedule are not guaranteed and available pending space in the class sections. There are certain types of requests we will not make; Requests to change teachers, to switch lunches, or to move a core class to another period. All of the rules are outlined at the top of the Microsoft Form to Request a Schedule Change and on the Registrar’s Office page of the school website.
For students enrolled in Math 8, due to higher than expected enrollment in our 8th grade cohort this year, we will be opening a new/additional section of Math 8 in the second semester. For students in Math 8, please note some students may have a change in teacher and class period semester two as we open this new section. We are fortunate to be able to reduce our class sizes for Math 8 students.
BECOMING A TA:
If you are in 8th grade and wish to change your schedule to become a TA:
You do not need to complete the schedule change request form if the only move you’d like to make is to become a TA. Students must follow all of these directions completely before placement can be considered. Remember your TA placement must be in the period of the elective you wish to have removed and we will not move core classes to accommodate TA positions. Complete these steps below NOW to secure your position for second semester. 6th and 7th graders are unable to apply for a TA position.
- Apply for TA: Start by filling out the TA application form using this link: Application Link.
- We are looking for responsible and respectful students to complete a variety of tasks.
- Choose a Teacher: Find a teacher or visit one of the offices accepting TA's (Main Office, Attendance, and Library). Make sure your availability matches the teacher's schedule. Remember, we can't change your core classes to make a TA position work.
- Teacher Approval: If the teacher agrees to have you as a TA, they should email Ms. Morgan to confirm. She will then check if the change is possible.
- No Response or Denial: If the teacher doesn't respond or cannot host you, try approaching another teacher.
- Registrar's Decision: The final step is waiting for the registrar to review the changes. She will email the teacher, the student, and parents with the result. If a change cannot be made then you will continue with your original semester 2 schedule
PE Waivers
If your 7th or 8th grader is placed for Team Sports in Second Semester and you want to complete a PE Waiver Request Form instead of taking PE then you need to complete a PE Waiver and complete the schedule change request form to indicate what elective you’d like to take instead. If you want to replace Team Sports with TA then you do not need to complete a schedule change form, only complete the steps above to become a TA. More information about the waiver can be found on the Registrar’s Office page of our school website.
Student-Led Conference March 21, 2024
Dear Eckstein Families,
During homerooms this past month, your student has begun preparing for Student-Led Conferences at Eckstein that will take place March 21, 2024. Eckstein has applied for a waiver day/no school day to allow time to host these conferences. Eckstein is committed to 100% participation from students and families to make this happen. Please tell us if your family may need support.
Student- Led Conferences are an opportunity for students to share their goals and progress. Parents/guardians will listen actively, ask questions, and comment on student work. Your student will be collecting artifacts of their work over the next months, setting goals for learning, and reflecting on progress. This will all culminate with your coming to school for a presentation by your student. Please note- this is not a Parent/Teacher conference you may be used to attending in elementary school. Student-Led is just that. The student decides what progress looks like to them and what goals and progress they are excited to share with you.
Closer to the conference date of March 21st, your student’s homeroom teacher will reach out to you to set up a specific time. For now, please put this date on your calendar! Each conference is allotted 20-30 minutes, with multiple conferences being held at the same time. The homeroom teacher is the host, but the student runs the conference. Families will be presented with what your student has been learning and hear about progress on responsible scholar goals.
This video will illustrate what you can expect!

We look forward to seeing you here March 21st, 2024!
