News from Mr. Hartmann . . .
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope everyone has an outstanding weekend and enjoys making memories. Also, the turkey and football aren’t bad either. I continue to be thankful for having committed parents, teachers, and support staff. Having high expectations and being consistent requires a true partnership between home and school.
You are invited to the PTO meeting on Monday November 27 at 6:30. At the meeting, we will work to plan a future event. Parents who attend the meeting will earn a $5.00 coupon for our book fair. Bring a friend and get to know others within our school. Being a parent is hard work but doing it with a supportive school community is much better!
Below are ideas of how to bring the exposure to a new level:
- Keep a well-stocked bookshelf – if your child is learning to read or using reading to learn, try and keep your bookshelf full of a variety of materials.
- Supply writing utensils – keep a healthy supply of pencils, pens, crayons, and paper.
- Create a quiet area – is there a space around the house where your child can do homework, read, or simply spend time away from any distractions? Make the literacy area special and distraction-free.
- Develop routines – set aside a regular time and place when your child does their reading and or homework. With a set routine, your child will know when it is time to work and will get into a regular habit of doing so.
- Make chores into learning experiences – setting the table, helping in the kitchen, putting clothes on the washing line – everyday chores are opportunities to teach your child about counting, shapes, colors, new words, etc.
- Play games – like board games, chess, checkers, puzzles, card games, etc. These types of games can develop logical reasoning ability, strategic thinking, patience, and many other important skills.
We are SOARing!

Blue Heron will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair on Tuesday 11/28 - Thursday 11/30 in the Media Center. Hours are Tue 9am-8pm and Wed-Thurs 9am-5pm. Book lists are available for each student to explore some of the many book options that will be available.
When can students purchase books?
Each classroom will be assigned a date/time during school hours to visit & purchase from the Fair. Students can also come with parents after school hours until 8pm on Tuesday and 5pm on Wed/Thurs. Parents can stop in anytime throughout the Fair hours to view/purchase. Credit cards are accepted.
How can students purchase?
Students can bring money from home. Please note a sales tax is applied on all items & students will likely have change (a zip lock bag is helpful). Parents also have the option to put funds on a student's digital eWallet. Any leftover funds on eWALLETs cannot be returned but will be saved for future Fairs. (Please note: if you have leftover funds from a previous fair, please make sure to log in and transfer the previous balance to the new Fair.)
