February News
I just wanted to give a shout out to all of you. You have been working so hard to complete assignments and join teachers in teams meetings. I know that the technology can sometimes be frustrating but let's keep it up! If you have any questions, you can contact me at 315-435-4546 or ejurkiewicz@scsd.us. Read Across America
We are celebrating Read Across America and Dr. Seuss's birthday next week with a spirit week of dress up days. See the image below to find out how to join the fun and what to wear on those days. Read Across America is all about reading, so grab your favorite book and find a cozy spot to read. You can also try something new- a new author or subject. Feel free to reach out for suggestions!
Library Lunch Bunch
I am hosting a daily lunch bunch on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 12-12:30. Students can join during their lunch to enjoy a read aloud and talk with peers. I often highlight new books or featured authors. Students can share some of their favorites as well. Students can join here- https://bit.ly/ChatwithMsJ. I would love to see you there!
Looking for a good book? Check out Sora!
Check out our ebook platform, Sora! There are now over 2,200 ebooks and audiobooks available to students. SCSD librarians have all been working hard to add titles to the collection this fall. Several classes have been introduced to our new ebook platform, Sora. Students and staff have access to ebooks and audiobooks through Clever. If you're just getting started, search for Syracuse City School District and begin exploring. Collaboration
I have enjoyed working with teachers and classes in a few different ways this month.
- I've joined classes to review Sora, our ebook platform in Clever. Students have access to thousands of ebooks and audiobooks on their computer. Explore a new author or type of book, as there are ways to browse by availability or by subject. You can place a hold on a book if someone is reading it.
- In 4th grade ELA, we have completed Nearpod lessons, learned about some this year's ALA's award winners including Caldecott and Newberry awards. We also participated in a virtual escape room activity for Valentine's Day in which we practiced our problem solving and critical thinking skills.
- This month is also Black History Month. I have joined multiple classes to share and explore important figures. We used some of the library resources including BrainPop and PebbleGo to gain background knowledge and ask questions.
- I have worked with teachers in professional learning to explore Newsela, Nearpod, and MyOn so that these tools can be made accessible to students.
