Message from the Principal
Good Afternoon Templeton Families,
We hope this message finds you safe and well! We also hope last week’s conferences were extremely helpful and productive for you and your family! There are a lot of reasons to be excited about what’s going on here at Templeton! Please stop by school today to visit our Book Fair and to participate in the Fall Festival! A big thank you to Jodie Tatafu & Alex Ubiadas for leading our Book Fair and to Amy Allen for doing the same for our Fall Festival! This is a ton of work, and it does so much for everyone who’s part of the Templeton community! We really hope to see you there!
With a new month comes new classwide awards that honor our students when they’re doing the right thing! These awards include The Golden Shoe Award (best behaved classroom in the hallway), The Golden Whistle Award (best behaved class at recess), The Golden Lunch Boat Award (best behaved class at lunch) and The Golden Broom Award (cleanest classroom). Finally, we’re also giving The Golden Plunger Award to the grade level with the cleanest neighborhood and the cleanest bathroom. We also have the classrooms with the highest attendance rates and those classrooms with the highest average number of iReady lessons passed in September. The winners are below!
It’s always a good day to be a Templeton Tiger!
Sincerely,
Rory Moore
Principal
Templeton Elementary School
Attendance Matters
Attendance is important for all learners! School success goes hand-in-hand with good attendance! Did you know:
- Starting in preschool and kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.
- Missing 10%, or about 2 days each month, over the course of a school year can make it harder to learn to read.
- Students can still fall behind if they miss just 1 or 2 days every few weeks.
- Being late to school may lead to poor attendance.
- Absences and tardiness can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up.
Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school and themselves. Good attendance will help children do well in high school, college, and at work. We'll see you at school!
5th Grade Ambassador Update
Templeton’s Ambassador program is a leadership opportunity for every 5th grade student at our school. Interested students complete an application that requires an essay as well as signatures of support from their teachers and administrators.
Currently, we have over 50 students participating. You may have seen them around school helping in the parking lot, cafeteria and with buses. They also made signs promoting tonight's Fall Festival. We encourage our Ambassadors to wear their orange shirts every week so people know who they are. We’ll be accepting additional applications in January, so if you have an interested 5th grader who didn’t participate this fall, they’ll get their chance very soon.
In addition to the day-to-day opportunities, our Ambassadors are very motivated to build a positive culture at Templeton! After reviewing last year’s school climate survey results at our last meeting, our ambassadors were united in wanting everyone to feel safe and like they belong. Like our teachers, the Ambassadors are strongly against bullying of any kind. They have started the process of making Templeton a No Place for Hate school to ensure every student feels supported, and they are creating an anti-bullying tool. By the spring of 2024, Templeton Elementary will be a No Place for Hate school thanks to our 5th grade Ambassadors' leadership and initiative.
The adults who primarily support the program are Michelle Massar (Templeton’s Associate Principal), Taylor Downs (5th Grade Teacher) and Caitln Brown (Family Partnership Advocate). DeeAnn Albaugh (Multilingual Learner Teacher) Sonia Lulay (Instructional Coach) and Rory Moore (Principal) are also supporting the group.
