Prayer Reflection
The Feast of the Presentation of the Lord
In Sunday’s readings we hear the prophet Malachi make the prophecy: “Suddenly there will come to the Temple the Lord whom you seek and the messenger of the covenant whom you desire.” And St. Luke writes about the fulfillment of that prophecy in the Gospel from Luke.
In Simeon and Anna, we are invited to experience the longing of God’s people for the promised Messiah. The prophets through the centuries have fed that longing. And today’s Psalm response prepares us for what is to come: “Lift up, O gates, your lintels, that the King of glory may come in.”
The King of glory is carried through the gates into the Temple in the arms of Mary and Joseph. No splendid entrance! And yet Simeon recognizes the hoped-for Messiah in the person of this baby. The Spirit of God has drawn Simeon to the child Jesus. At that moment, a glimpse of the glory that has come to earth is heard in the response of Simeon: “Now, Master, you may let your servant go in peace, for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you prepared in the sight of all the peoples.” What a blessed encounter!
But we also hear words that are meant to prepare Mary and Joseph and us for what is to come. The Messiah will suffer and die for the salvation of the world.
As we pray with these Scriptures, what might we learn?
As the Lord has come among us in a humble, gentle way, he is encouraging us to be his humble, gentle presence in the world around us. As Simeon and Anna longed for the coming Messiah, we too might take the quiet time needed to get in touch with our longing for all that Jesus will bring to us.
As Simeon thanked the Lord for fulfilling his promise, we too might develop a deeper sense of gratitude for all the gifts that our loving God has graced for us each day.
Give thanks for our loving God who enters our temple every day.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Catholic Schools Week is a great opportunity to relive our Catholic Heritage and recognize all the teachers who have worked over the years in maintaining a Catholic Education for children. In our school alone we have had a long history of teachers providing Catholic education for close to 70 years. Let us remember them and our current staff who minister to the children in our local community and beyond.
Thanks to our Grade 8 and Grade 1 students and teachers for providing our worship experience at the Open House School Mass. A special thanks to Mr. Ceja and the choir for providing the music. It was wonderful to see so many students involved in the mass.
Family Mass
This coming Sunday we have our grade 4 students preparing the Mass and participating in it. Thanks to Miss Ruano for preparing the students.
Annual Crab Feed
The Crab Feed is this coming Saturday, and I wish to thank the Athletic Board for organizing this event. If you have not attended before it is a wonderful event.
8th Grade Event
Today our 8th graders attended an Archdiocesan event for all 8th graders at Mission Dolores. A great time was had by all students.
Important - Calendar Update
February 10th is a Minimum Day. Please make note of a calendar change. Teachers have an Archdiocesan Professional Development afternoon on February 10th. It was omitted originally on the school calendar but added later by the Department of Catholic Schools.
Valentine's Day
Just a reminder that school staff will not be hosting any parties or gift or card exchange among students. We ask parents to be respectful of the school’s position for Valentine's.
Tuition and Fees 2020 – 2021 School Year
Budget preparation has been occurring the past couple of weeks, and the School Finance Committee and School Board have reviewed the budget for the next school year. Unfortunately, I do have to inform you that there has been an increase with tuition, but some good news is that we have been able to eliminate SCRIP and incorporate it into tuition. The tuition increase is due to a salary increase of 4% for teachers and a 2% for all other staff. Medical insurance has increased along with the Archdiocesan fee for each student.
The 2020 – 2021 Tuition & Fee Scales: Please see the information below.
Re-Registration 2020-2021 and Late Fee
The re-registration process will be open from Monday, March 2nd to Monday, March 16th. At this time, you will be required to complete the forms and submit the registration fee of $325. The late registration fee is $50 which means the re-registration fee will become $375 after March 16th.

BOX TOPS
Box Tops for Education was started by General Mills in California back in 1996, after the company decided they wanted to create a program to help support education and benefit America’s schools. All Souls has benefitted from this program over the years, receiving sports equipment, microscopes, and a variety of other educational items.
You can help by clipping the Box Tops off approved products you already have in your pantry. You don't need to clip the actual product UPC — just the Box Tops logo will do. From frozen foods to produce and household cleaning products, there are literally hundreds of opportunities to help, and each Box Top is worth 10 cents. Doesn't sound like a lot, but it adds up fast.
There are so many participating companies! Participating companies and product lines include General Mills, Green Giant, Totino's, Pillsbury, Old El Paso, Ziploc, Hefty, Juicy Juice, Betty Crocker and many more. For a full list of eligible items check the Box Tops for Education website at https://www.boxtops4education.com/earn .
Please see the flyer below for more details about new additions to the Box Tops program.
