THOUGHTS FROM DR. VOELKL...
Happy Sunday to all,
This week marks our final week before the start of our Thanksgiving Break and the conclusion of our first Trimester of the 2021-2022 school year. Again this year, I am so PROUD of our teachers, so IMPRESSED by our students and so GRATEFUL for our parents. Our Saint Charles Borromeo village continues to come together allowing us not simply to survive but to thrive as we move through another somewhat untraditional school year.
I wanted to share a few thoughts as you review and reflect on your child's progress this week. I came upon a quote this weekend that spoke to me as a parent and educator, "There is enormous social pressure on parents for their kids not just to be the best they can be, but to be on par with, if not demonstrably better than, their peers." God blessed each of us with the amazing gifts of our children, and while each of them are fearfully and wonderfully made, they are all inherently different. Thus, I encourage you to look at your child's growth and progress over time. Did they put forth their best effort? Did they rise to their potential? Did they use their gifts and talents to the best of their ability? Just like every child on the soccer team cannot be the star goal scorer, every child in the classroom cannot be the highest achiever academically. Our goal and our responsibility is to meet kiddos where they are and grow them accordingly. Of course, there may be instances in which teachers notice certain habits, practices and/or behaviors that are hindering a child's growth. They enjoy the opportunity to dialogue with you openly and honestly so that we can adapt, adjust and modify our plans to meet the needs or each individual child. The greatest gift you can give your child is to celebrate them for their gifts, hold them accountable when they make choices that hinder them from reaching their potential, provide them with the love and support needed to grow, and hold honest and realistic expectations for their achievements.
And as always the "school" experience extends far beyond academics. We also strive to ensure our students grow in their faith, friendships and overall emotional well-being. If there are questions or information you would like to share with us in any of these areas we are always anxious to listen and support as well.
THANK YOU for continuing to share your children with us!

CAFE HELP
We could really use some help in the Cafe. Our first session (11:00-12:00) is a slower pace with K-3 students and is mostly helping open items, pass out disposable silverware and condiments, help kiddos stand in line patiently for recess, and help wipe off tables. The second session (12:00-1:00) is a much faster pace yet has lots of kiddos 4-8 grade in and out of the Cafe in less than an hour. This is mostly monitoring/walking the room and helping wipe off tables. Thank you in advance and thank you to those who have helped in the past and continue to help!
