In an effort to streamline the process for reporting a student absence at Eastview, families may now complete and submit a single online form.
Beginning November 19, our new District 196 Online Absence Notification System will allow families to report an illness or other absence, sign a student out, and alert staff of a late arrival. Once submitted, the system will directly notify your school.
The form may be accessed by clicking here. (See Button Below)
The form is also located on our Eastview website; under Families>Attendance Information, and under Contact, as well as on ALL district websites.
For ESPAÑOL and SOOMAALI language pages, which can be accessed in the top black utility bar of all websites, the form is available on the Attendance and Contact pages.
Please be aware that this new system will replace the steps previously taken to report an absence. During this transition, you may continue to send notes to our attendance office. However, we ask that you begin using the new absence notification system as soon as possible.

Masks Required on Buses and Inside Schools
State officials have given school districts the responsibility to determine COVID-19 mitigation strategies at the local level this school year. The 2021-22 COVID-19 Operational Plan for Families, Students and Visitors to Schools that was unanimously approved by our School Board on August 26 requires all students, staff and visitors in all District 196 buildings to wear a face mask indoors when the local transmission level is “substantial” or “high” as measured by the CDC transmission matrix. Currently, the transmission level in Dakota County is high, meaning face masks will be required in our schools to start the year, just as they are required to enter a growing number of businesses, government buildings and on all public transportation and airline flights.
Your partnership is critical to the success of our students. We expect students, staff and visitors to comply with the mask requirement, as outlined in Administrative Regulation 708.7, COVID-19 Masks, until the COVID-19 spread in Dakota County drops to the “moderate” level of transmission. Masks help reduce spread and give us the best opportunity to provide consistent in-person education all year. Just like last year, students will have opportunities for mask breaks during the day, such as at lunch or while outside. If parents and guardians are concerned about their child’s ability to safely wear a mask, they should refer back to Administrative Regulation 708.7 COVID-19 Masks.
Our district is committed to doing all we can to ensure students can continue learning in person this school year. This includes HEPA filters in all learning spaces, social distancing, recommending COVID-19 vaccinations for those who are eligible to receive them and requiring masks when the local transmission level is substantial or high.
Review and Update Emergency Information
If you haven’t already done so, please update your family’s information on record with the district by completing the online review in your Infinite Campus Parent portal account. This is the one time each year the district asks parents to complete the review to ensure schools have up-to-date contact information, emergency contacts, student health records and more. It is important for schools to have current information in order to be notified in case of emergency, changes in the school schedule and to receive regular communication from the schools and district.
All District 196 parents and guardians are encouraged to have an Infinite Campus Parent account of their own to stay involved in their child’s education, and to access end-of-term report cards, transcripts, attendance and other important information. Parents who do not have their own Infinite Campus Parent account can request an activation key from the office at their child’s school. For information on setting up an Infinite Campus Parent account and completing the online review, visit the Family Resources page on our district website.
We look forward to partnering with you to make 2021-22 a safe, fun and productive school year for all of our students and families.

SPORTS SCOREBOARD
12/17: Eastview High School Girls Varsity Basketball beat Farmington High School 53-37
The Lightning turn up the defense, and finish with the 53-37 win over the Farmington Tigers. The victory was a team effort as everyone contributed with scoring and rebound. The Lightning were lead be Savanah Gardner who recorded 16 points and 9 rebounds. Myah Maull chipped in 13 points, 4 assists and accounted for 7 deflections.
The Lightning improve to 5-2, and 2-0 in the South Suburban Conference. They travel to Eagan High School on December 21st.
12/14: Eastview High School Girls Varsity Basketball beat Burnsville Senior High School 50-44
The Lightning start conference play with a 50-44 victory over the Burnsville Blaze. The Lightning were lead by the stifling defense of Kaitlyn Schaefer and Myah Maull. Scoring contributions included Savanah Gardner with 14, Robyn Dayton with 13, Schaefer with 9, Kylie Smith with 6, Maull with 5, and Caitlyn Han with 3. Maull added a season high 5 assists. Gardner recorded a double double by adding 10 rebounds.
The Lightning move to 4-2, and 1-0 on the South Suburban Conference.
12/18: Lightning Boys Varsity Hockey
The 17th ranked Lightning boys hosted the #2 ranked Lakeville South Cougars on Saturday in a South Suburban showdown, unfortunately losing the game 4-1 despite a strong start.
The Lightning controlled the early play nearly scoring in the first minute and putting up the game’s first three shots. Gabe Tritschler drew an early penalty five minutes into the period but in a precursor for the day, the Lightning failed to capitalize on the power play. The Cougars provided a second power play that was shortened by a Lightning penalty, ultimately leading to a four on four goal by Tanner Kronberg half way into the period. Assists went to Charlie Ortman and Ben Keefer. The period ended with a 1-0 Lightning lead and the Cougars maintaining a 8-7 lead in shots.
The Lightning opened the second period with a strong penalty kill but failed to gain lasting momentum from a great defensive effort by Tritschler, Keefer and Nick Karam after committing another penalty less than minute later. Strong goaltending by Jay Svaren and the solid penalty kill paced Eastview to a lead until midway through the second when the Cougars scored two even strength goals 38 seconds apart. The Cougar 2-1 lead held as the Lightning failed to capitalize on two more power plays. For the period, the Cougars had a 12-6 lead in shots on goal.
The Cougar momentum continued in the third period with a short-handed goal three minutes into the period. The Cougars closed out the scoring with a power play goal halfway into the period. Special teams ended up being a difference maker as the Cougars scored both a shorty and a power play goal while the Lightning were 0-5 on the power play. The boys skated hard with the Cougars for the first half of the game and learned the importance of being relentless against a top team and staying out of the box!
The 5-2 Lightning next take on Burnsville on Tuesday at 7pm in a home game at the AVSA. Tuesday’s game is another important South Suburban Conference matchup and the last game before winter break, so Super-fans needed once again!

JV SPORTS
12/18 –JV Boys Hockey Team Gets First Home Ice Victory of the Season!
The Eastview boys JV hockey team came out strong and ready to play Lakeville South on home ice on Saturday after two losses and a tie in their last three games. Eastview was quick to put the puck in the net when they converted on their first power play of the game 1:37 into the first period. Gavin Churness tickled the twine for the first goal of the game and was assisted by Graham Ellingson and Kevin Woehler. The Lightning had two other opportunities to score on power plays during the first but were unable to rack up another goal. Eastview outshot the Lakeville South Cougars 14 to 8, dominated puck possession, and ended the period with a 1-0 lead.
The Lightning were quick to put another one in the net early in the second when Reed Ellingson shot from the point and Jaymeson Zackery tipped it in just 1:40 into the second period. Eastview was ahead 2 to 0 but was scored on during their second penalty kill of the period on a wrap-around goal by the Cougars. Eastview dominated shots on goal again in the second out-shooting Lakeville South 8 to 5. The second period ended with Eastview in a 2 - 1 lead that they never relinquished.
The third period saw both teams working hard for the win. With just 1:28 left in the third, Lakeville South was sent to the box for cross-checking giving Eastview the power play advantage. The Cougars pulled their goalie with less than one minute left in regulation to make it 5 on 5 on the ice, but Eastview held on to the lead to earn their first home ice win of the season beating Lakeville South 2 – 1. Junior goalie Blake Jensen was strong in the net and helped keep Eastview in the game with 19 saves.
