The North Scott Junior High Color Run is an annual tradition that we encourage all students to participate in. The Color Run Fundraiser is the start to an amazing year at North Scott Junior High. All proceeds collected from the fundraiser are used for Student Activities and Events here at NSJH.
These funds are used to purchase items for student led clubs, field trips, supplies, lunch groups, afterschool activities, dances, the color run race and so much more! Please help our 7th and 8th grade students reach their goal and donate to the fundraiser today!
All students are welcome to participate in the Color Run - fundraising is not required.

3R's & Wise Guys letter of Information
Caregivers,
We would like to share an opportunity for your child. Every year, Bethany for Families and Children support our standards by delivering two programs. These include 3Rs and Wise Guys. Here is the detailed information regarding these programs.
The purpose of the 3Rs (Rights, Respect, and Responsibility) Program is to provide “an honest, inclusive sex education program for all students. This curriculum addresses functional knowledge and specific skills necessary to adopt healthy behaviors.” The 3Rs Program is being offered to any 7th or 8th grade student. There will be a mixed gender 7th grade group and a mixed gender 8th grade group. The sessions will cover topics such as:
Decision-making
Communication skills
Healthy and unhealthy relationships
Choosing your words carefully
The role of texting in relationships
Warning Signs and understanding sexual assault
Birth control basics
STD basics
The purpose of Wise Guys is to provide young men with the tools and techniques necessary to make responsible decisions; to practice self-respect and respect of others; as well as to gain important information related to sexual activity and its consequences. The sessions will cover such topics of:
Communication and self-esteem
Decision-making/goal setting
Male responsibility
Healthy/unhealthy relationships
Sexuality, consent, and STDs
Suicide and social media
Both programs will have sessions once a week. The students will meet at various times to ensure they don't miss the same class multiple times.
If you choose for your child to participate in the program, please complete this Google Form by September 13, 2023. Each group can have up to 10 students, so the spaces available will be filled as caregiver permission is received. A confirmation email and a schedule of time, location, and topic will be sent on Monday, September 18th. Groups will start on Wednesday the 20th. Thank you for sharing your child with us, and please feel free to contact us at any time with questions, concerns, or celebrations. Take care.

Friendly Fridays
Greetings North Scott Community!
North Scott Junior High staff continues working hard to help students feel seen, accepted, and safe throughout the school year. We are happy to announce that Friendly Friday will be taking place on the last Friday of the month. We are looking for teams of community adults to line our main hallway (front entry) with a celebration from 7:35-7:50. Our available building staff will join you as well.
We are looking for ten teams of 10-20 individuals to commit to one of the following Friday dates:
September 29th
October 27th
November 17th
December 15th
January 26th
February 23rd
March 22nd
April 26th
May 31st
Please identify a team “coach” and e-mail sarah.riley@north-scott.k12.ia.us to sign up. During this conversation, we can discuss ideas to welcome our students on your assigned day. This could be as simple as hallways full of smiles and hellos or as elaborate as signs, costumes and musical instruments! Here are two video clips from local media (KWQC and Gary Metivier) to show what’s been done in the past.
On your assigned day, your team will meet me in the JH front lobby at 7:25 a.m. All adults will need a driver’s license to be checked in and participate. Groups are welcome to give students a non-edible memento.
Thank you in advance for helping us create a real and lasting culture of kindness and inclusion.
Sincerely,
Sarah Riley
NSJH School Counselor
