Ephesians 6:10-20 (NIRV)
10 Finally, let the Lord make you strong. Depend on his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor. Then you can remain strong against the devil’s evil plans. 12 Our fight is not against human beings. It is against the rulers, the authorities and the powers of this dark world. It is against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly world. 13 So put on all of God’s armor. Evil days will come. But you will be able to stand up to anything. And after you have done everything you can, you will still be standing. 14 So remain strong in the faith. Put the belt of truth around your waist. Put the armor of godliness on your chest. 15 Wear on your feet what will prepare you to tell the good news of peace. 16 Also, pick up the shield of faith. With it you can put out all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Put on the helmet of salvation. And take the sword of the Holy Spirit. The sword is God’s word.
18 At all times, pray by the power of the Spirit. Pray all kinds of prayers. Be watchful, so that you can pray. Always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. 19 Pray also for me. Pray that whenever I speak, the right words will be given to me. Then I can be bold as I tell the mystery of the good news. 20 Because of the good news, I am being held by chains as the Lord’s messenger. So pray that I will be bold as I preach the good news. That’s what I should do.
Try This . . .
In the Morning . . .
In the month of January, commit with your child to getting up 5-10min earlier 4 days each week to spend time together reading the Bible or doing a devotional to learn more about God. Start with reading through Ephesians, with stories about Jesus, read some Psalms of praise, you use an App (like YouVersion Bible App) to help you get started. At the end of the day or at the end of the month, talk about how the sword has helped you fight!
On the Move...
The belt of truth is the first piece of armor we are called to put on. In the days of Roman Soldiers, the belt held all the armor up.
The belt of truth is also like a tool belt, a way to keep all our needed materials to get a job done quickly accessible so we can keep working. This is also like the truth of God. If we keep the promises of God that we read in scripture close to us, then when we are doing the work of God, we have what we need ready to keep doing the job God called us to do.
As you drive make a list of as many truths that you know of God and what God says of you.
Keep your Bible or Bible app handy to read and look for more truths that you can learn and add to your belt of truth throughout the month.
In Prayer...
During our study of Ephesians, let's pray for our children and have them pray back for us as we put on the armor of God.
Dear God,
I pray for (insert name here) that you may equip them with the belt of truth, and that they remember the truths that nothing can separate (name) from your love and that you will always be faithful to (name) and make him/her strong
Help (name) put on the breastplate of righteousness (or godliness) and protect his/her heart. Help (name) wear the shoes of peace and spread your good news to everyone.
Give (name) your strength to pick up the shield of faith so he/she may remember that by faith we are brave, strong, known, and loved by you.
We ask that you protect (name's) mind with the helmet of salvation, remembering that we have been saved through the forgiveness of our sins by Jesus dying on the cross. Protect our mind with this salvation to not listen to any lies that tell us differently.
Grant (name) the sword of your spirit so that we can cut through any schemes or lies and remember the truth of your word.
We thank you God that we can pray to you. We pray for each other, for those we love, and all the Lord's people.
We pray all of these things with the power of the Spirit in Jesus' name. Amen.
