A Note from Mrs. Williams
Hello Schluter Families!
It's been such a wonderful week, and to top things off, we had such a great turnout for our first Parent Picnic in over 3 years! Thank you to all of you who were able to attend. If you weren't able to attend, don't worry, our teachers did a great job in making sure all of our kiddos felt special and had a great time.
We are also off to a great start with our volunteers this year! Many of you are already giving your time to support our students, teachers, and our school, and we appreciate you so much! If you are interested in volunteering or would like to learn more about these opportunities, be sure to attend our next Volunteer 101 session next week. If you can't come in person, you're welcome to join online using the link below. We would love to have you!
Next week is our final week for the Beat the Bears PTA Membership Drive! If you, your student, or a family member has not yet joined PTA, please consider doing so. Your donation for joining helps with school-wide supplies and events for students! As an added bonus, we have a friendly competition with Berkshire Elementary for the highest amount of PTA memberships, and we are currently just in the lead! Help us stay there by joining today. You can join by visiting schluterpta.org.
Enjoy the sunshine this weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Williams
If you missed our first Volunteer 101, we hope that you can attend our next session on September 28th. If you cannot attend in person, we have a simultaneous zoom option.

Help us spread the word! Post on your community pages, tell your family and friends!
In the spirit of friendly competition, we are doing a "Beat the Bears" PTA Membership Drive from September 1st to the 30th with Berkshire Elementary!
The school with the most new PTA members during the month of September will be declared the winner! The losing school’s principal and assistant principal will have to wear the winning school’s spirit wear during assembly. Let’s make sure the Berkshire Bears are covered in PURPLE!!
In addition, the class with the most total PTA members by the end of the month will win a POPCORN PARTY!
Remember, anyone can be a member of the PTA (parents, grandparents, siblings, students, teachers, staff, and community members).

Let's Talk About Lunch!
Do you know what is included in an elementary and middle school meal? Watch the video and learn more!
You may be surprised how much is available to your student every day for lunch!
Free & Reduced Lunch Program
While the federal government subsidized a free meal program that Northwest ISD implemented for all elementary and middle school students last year, this program was not funded for 2022-2023. This means families who meet income requirements should apply for the free and reduced-cost meal program if they believe their children should qualify for these meals.
Students in this program receive one breakfast and one lunch combo meal daily for their free or reduced-cost price. Families can apply online or print out a paper copy of the form. Those who previously were accepted into the program will have a 30-day grace period to reapply.

- WHAT'S HAPPENING IN NISD -
Northwest ISD named District of Distinction for art
Northwest ISD’s visual arts program engages learners of all ages in art education. The district’s students are taught by certified art educators at each grade level. The district will be honored at the TAEA Administration & Supervision Division meeting and General Session during the TAEA Fall Conference General Assembly on Friday, November 10.
Dr. Michael Griffin Named Acting Superintendent
With the move, Northwest ISD’s leadership structure maintains a strong foundation, placing an experienced district leader at the helm until the board selects a permanent superintendent. Dr. Griffin will assume her new responsibilities immediately.
Registration now open for annual NISD Reindeer Romp
The event consists of two races, a 5K and 1-mile fun run. The latter race begins at 8:30 a.m., while the longer race begins at 9 a.m. Registration costs $20 per student and $25 per adult. Registrants can take part in either race or both races, if desired.
To register for the Reindeer Romp or learn more about the event, visit www.nisdreindeerromp.com.
Background checks delayed following court backlogs
Please be aware that because of backlogs with court systems, background checks for volunteering are taking additional time to process. While background checks are typically expected to take about three days, the delays are causing them to take up to three weeks.
Northwest ISD partners with a respected service to gather these reports, though our partner can only operate as quickly as the court system. Please keep this in mind when volunteering, and we encourage anyone who plans to volunteer this year to submit a background check immediately instead of waiting.
