Lend A Paw For Furry Friends
From kitten food to doggy beds, donations for Royall's annual Lend-A-Paw effort have begun pouring into our campus! This past week, members of our Student Leadership Team worked to collect and record each day's donations, and we were excited to see so many members of the Royall family participating in this drive that supports the Florence Area Humane Society. We will continue to collect items from the humane society's wish list throughout the month of February, so check out the list below and start shopping now! Students who bring contributions will receive homework passes and will also be recognized over the intercom during our morning announcements. Thank you for your support!
A Royall Creature Feature
Meet Patty... and Ambrosia!!
Patty is the beloved cat of Ashley Mabes, one of our fourth grade teachers at Royall. Patty was found in the gutter at McLeod Hospice last June. While sharing the last few hours with her mother-in-law, Ms. Linda, Ms. Mabes told her how much she wanted a kitten. On the morning of Ms. Linda's passing, the family heard tiny meows from underground. Hours later they finally coaxed her out with treats and soothing words. Ms. Linda's birthday was on St. Patrick's Day so that's why this precious little kitten received the name Patty. She brings endless laughter and joy to the Mabes family and makes them feel as though they still have a piece of Ms. Linda at home.
Ambrosia is an 11 week old puppy currently available for adoption at the Florence Area Humane Society. She is described by shelter staff as a "true bundle of joy," and she would love to be a new member of your family! Would you consider taking her or one of her friends at the shelter home with you this week?
A Groundhog Weather Prediction
Six more weeks of winter or an early spring on the way? Royall's kindergarten students eagerly awaited the yearly prediction from Punxsutawney Phil on Friday! In celebration of Groundhog's Day, they had fun reading books about these furry creatures, eating groundhog themed snacks, and making weather predictions of their own. And in case you were wondering, Phil did not see his shadow -- so it looks like spring is on the way!
A Royall Teacher Feature
Meet Courtney Reynolds, Royall's School-Based Therapist! A graduate of both Coastal Carolina University and Francis Marion University, Ms. Reynolds served students at Lester Elementary and also worked in private practice before joining the Royall family. She says that she loves being a part of our school because "everyone is always happy and supportive. Parents and teachers are willing to help and everyone is working together." Ms. Reynolds describes herself as a "Harry Potter nerd" who enjoys reading and putting together Harry Potter LEGO constructions in her free time! She is an asset to our school, and we are so glad that she is a part of the Royall family!
