A Moment with Mrs. O'Donnell
Good Morning! I want to express my sadness for those worried about loved ones in Israel or Gaza. Please contact us if you need any social-emotional resources for you or your family. We are here to support each other. The upcoming activities and events that we have experienced and new activities are in the theme of giving at Attea, which is very timely and can help us to cope by giving to others.
SPAT THRIFT UP! Event at Attea this past Saturday was a huge success. Families could pick and select so many beautiful items to use for needs and entertainment! I truly enjoyed all the extra smiles we could give others! Everyone was so appreciative and happy, it was a GIVING experience!
Our staff looks forward to our Parent/Student/Teacher conferences today, October 13th. I hope your students attend, as they are responsible for their learning and share more about their learning experiences. I look forward to seeing all of you at conferences and the Book Fair! I appreciate your partnership and support for our students’ learning. Our PTA is providing lunch for our entire staff, and we thank you in advance for giving us more teacher energy during conferences.
Our Character Counts Food Drive and our Winter Coat Drive is starting Oct. 16th-20th. All collection bins are labeled in the lobby of Attea. On Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2023 we will Stuff the Bus, so check out the routes listed below and the items needed below, and the Attea Administrative Team will greet and thank you! Our student council is working on friendly competitions regarding who can bring in the most food items for our community! Go and GIVE!
Go Flyers!
Mrs. O’Donnell
Congratulations to the High Flyers of the Week
Character Counts Food Drive & Stuff the Bus on October 18!
The Character Counts! in Glenview annual food drive to support the Northfield Township Food Pantry runs from October 16-20.
The season of giving is upon us! Please consider donating food items for the Character Counts Glenview Kids Care Food Drive. You can drop off items at collection boxes at any D34 school or deliver food or check/cash donations directly to the pantry at 2550 Waukegan Rd., Suite 100 in Glenview (in front of the Jewel on Waukegan Road).
At Attea we are making it a team challenge! Each grade level team has a colored bin in their hallways. Fill it up with new boxed and canned food items starting Monday October 16th-20th. You can also make a cash donation in the office. The team with the most donations will win a sweet treat!
You also can drop off donations to the Food Pantry and winter wear for the clothing drive at the “Stuff the Bus” collection on Wednesday, October 18. You’ll see the buses throughout Glenview with “Stuff the Bus” banners. Meet a bus at one of the stops listed below to drop off your donation - or just say hello!
Retrieve Items From Lost and Foun
Our Lost and Found cubbies and shelves are bursting with items that belong to our students. All items have been moved to tables and racks in front of the office. Every student will pass by many times a day. PLEASE take a careful look and take any items that belong to you. If you lost a more expensive item, please check in the office. Parents can also check during Conferences.
Any items remaining after Wednesday, 10/18 will be donated to charity.
Spirit Week Coming Soon!!
Halloween 2023 Guidelines
Halloween Expectations
As the end of October approaches, please review our middle school guidelines for Halloween on October 31st. Take a look below, and please keep in mind as you plan if you wish to participate in Halloween dress for Spirit Day. If you need additional information or learning accommodations, please let the office staff know so we can provide space for all learners to attend school.
Costume Guidlines
We want all of our students to have a fun and safe time this Halloween at school. To promote a safe and respectful environment, here are some reminders about our costume
guidelines:
Face/body make-up and hair coloring are welcome, but they must be applied at home before coming to school.
Students may not bring hair coloring or makeup to apply at school or to share with others.
Masks may not be worn during the school day.
Props should not be brought to school (including fake weapons).
Costumes should respect the dignity and sensitivities of all groups of people.
Costumes should avoid inappropriately provocative, excessively violent representations or references to drugs or alcohol.
Costumes should allow the student to participate in learning activities, such as physical education.
Order Your 23-24 Yearbook
To date, ONLY 225 yearbooks have been purchased. Over 600 were purchased last year. Take advantage of this treasured memory.
ORDER A YEARBOOK TODAY!
Be Responsible, Be On Time
A specific and measurable characteristic of being responsible means students are expected to be present and on-time to class. In tandem with student recognition to encourage positive student behaviors and the development of life habits, we are monitoring and identifying students who are tardy to school and issuing consequences. If this becomes an area of concern, communication will be sent to families regarding unexcused tardies.
School starts promptly at 8:15 am (or 9:15 am on Wednesdays), and we look forward to seeing all students at school on time which indicates behavior which sets them up for success.

Glenview Community Winter Wear Drive: Keeping Our Neighbors Warm!
The Glenview Community Winter Wear Drive, from October 9-19, aims to ensure that local families in need stay warm and comfortable during the cold winter months. We are collecting new and like-new winter coats, hats, scarves, mittens and gloves to provide warmth and comfort to those who need it most.
From October 9-19, drop off donations of new and like-new winter wear at the following locations:
- Youth Services (3080 W. Lake Ave.)
- GBS Main Lobby (4000 W. Lake Ave.)
- Lyon School (1335 Waukegan Rd.)
- Attea Middle School (2500 Chestnut Ave.)
- Stuff the Bus Event on October 18 throughout Glenview
You also can make a monetary donation online at tinyurl.com/GVWinterWear. Every contribution, coat or cash, big or small, helps us make a difference in the lives of our neighbors. A shopping event for those in need will take place later this fall.
This initiative is made possible through the collaborative efforts of GBS Titans Helping Titans, District 34, Youth Services, the Debra Gelfand Children's Foundation and the District 34 PTAs.
This News Has Teeth!
Dental health is an important part of a child’s overall health – we love to see our students’ healthy smiles!
In the first two weeks of October, District 34 is bringing Orland Park Dental Services (OPDS) to our schools to provide dental exams to any of our students who need it. As a reminder, the State of Illinois requires students in grades K, 2 and 6 submit proof of a dental exam – but these in-school appointments with OPDS are open to any and all students! They provide dental services to children on public aid as well as those with private dental insurance.
The exams are provided by caring, licensed dentists, hygienists and dental assistants with state-of-the-art portable dental equipment. OPDS has been providing in-school dental services since 1999 and their healthcare professionals ensure a clean, safe and comfortable environment within the schools.
Parents and guardians who complete the consent form do not have to join their child at the appointment (but you are welcome to come in). If you have questions or need assistance, contact District Nurse Shari Stadler (sstadler@glenview34.org).
