Please be aware that winter and spring Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Wednesday, February 6th from 5:00-8:00PM. Please take note that the conferences will take place in individual teacher classrooms throughout the building. The intent of this format is to provide a more intimate personalized atmosphere for dialogue between parents, students, and teachers. We ask that you keep individual conferences between 5 and 10 minutes with each teacher. If additional time is needed, you can always request another meeting time with the teacher or correspond via phone or email.

NJROTC members will be here to guide and direct parents and patrons to the appropriate rooms, however you will need to know your student’s schedule/teachers as printed schedules will NOT be provided. We will also have Spanish-speaking interpreters available that evening as well.

Lastly, Booster Club will be selling spirit-wear and PTSA will be available to answer your questions about membership. We hope to see you here to help support the learning of your student.

If your student has accumulated over 10 absences in one or more periods this school year documentation is needed to excuse this absence. i.e. Dr. note, college visit, court papers, etc. The student will be marked with an A=Absent. Once documentation is given to the Attendance Office the A=Absent will be changed to an E=Excused. A=Absent will still generate a robo call to the home each evening.

Enrollment for the 2019-2020 school year will begin in January. Counselors will talk to their Alpha grade level students during Seminars and give them their Course Request Cards and Course Listing Sheets at this time.

Students will have one week to talk to their parents and make their decisions about course choices. Counselors will be sitting at tables in the ELA hallways and will “pull” students from their ELA grade level classes during Wednesday and Thursday block days.

Spring is just around the corner, start preparing for spring TODAY! The spring College Now schedule of classes is now available. Students can access the College Now class schedule by going to jccc.edu, selecting the Classes link at the top of the page, then selecting High School College Now Classes from the dropdown menu.

Please share the attached College Now Enrollment Guide for High School Students with your students, parents and College Now faculty. Check out the College Now website with FAQ’s to answer all your questions.

Enrollment Reminder Letters –
Each fall semester, we send letters to students who enrolled in a fall course that has a subsequent spring course. (Example: History to 1877 in the fall and History since 1877 in the spring.) These recommendations are to alert students that a sequential spring course is available. Students are advised to contact their high school counselor or instructor for more information.

Spring College Now enrollment will begin on Jan 22!

Join Stuco! Student Body election process begins on February 28th

Students in Global Issues classes are currently working on designing Passive Solar Energy Efficient Homes and/or Home Built to Withstand Natural Disasters. This projects allows students to become familiar with living in areas that have natural disasters, such wildfires, tornadoes, and hurricanes. It also helps the students design energy efficient homes that are environmentally friendly and save money on utility bills.

Works by Allan Winkler are currently on display in the Brantman gallery. Mr. Winkler is coming to North to offer a paper cutting workshop to students in Graphic Design and AP studio art.

Shawnee Mission North’s Hall of Fame will grow by three exceptional inductees. On Friday, February 1st, at halftime of the boys’ basketball game (approximately 7:45 pm), Gene Elstun (posthumously), Jennifer True Roth and Robin Williams-Gray will be introduced as the newest members of the class of 2018-19.

Deadline and Forms:

The deadline to turn in forms to the athletic office for spring 2019 sports is Friday, February 18, 2019. Any athlete turning in forms on Monday, February 25, 2019 risks their opportunity to participate that day.

Requirements to tryout and participate are:

Ø A completed KSHSAA Pre-Participation Physical Exam (PPE) Revision of the form; earlier versions of the form will not be accepted.

Ø The physical examination date must be May 1, 2018 or after and signed by a medical professional.

Ø Parent consent must be completed and signed.

Ø For 2018-2019, the concussion form will need to be in paper form and signed. It will not be included in the online forms.

Ø The 2018-19 High School Athletic Packet, completed by both parent or guardian and athlete in Skyward.

The North Indians fought hard on Wednesday, January 23rd in a dual meet against SM South, and came up a bit short, getting outscored 105 to 75. The Indians were short-handed, but still had some great swims and a lot of personal records.

We convincingly won the 200 Medley Relay, and also had individual wins from Caleb Sostarich in the 50 Free and the 100 Free, Cameron Lee in the 100 Butterfly and Ryan McMillin in the 100 Backstroke. Individual 2nd place finishers included Harden Boldt in the 50 Free and 100 Fly and Cameron Lee in the 100 Breaststroke. Other great swims were put in by Taylor Brown, McMillin in his 100 Free, Jorge Coromac, Luke Aloi, Cale Chapman, Jacob Slobodzian, Ali Alsaeed and Dayton Moody.

North takes to the pool again on Friday night against Olathe North and Olathe West, and then prepares for Sunflower League Championships next week. Great job guys, and keep up the fast swimming!!

We are getting ready to start practicing at the end of February as the Boys Golf Season is about to begin. Led by returning Seniors Gunnar Ehlers, Cole Lueker, Matthew Needham and Hunter Wolken. We are looking forward to a season where we continue to improve and work on getting golfers to the State tournament in May.

If you are interested in Golfing this Spring for North please stop by and talk to Coach Mansfield or Coach Ricker.
