A Moment with Mrs. O'Donnell
Dear Attea Families,
Our Winter Bash is underway, and we are about to send this newsletter. The energy is excellent, and students will have a BLAST! Watching our middle school students having fun together and hanging out after school on a Friday warms my heart! The staff, PTA, and district all came together to collaborate and support the Attea Winter Bash! We appreciate all the staff and parent volunteers.
We are kicking off Black History Month, and our African American students are working towards sharing their rich heritage and the contributions of others. The 2024 national theme for Black History Month is “African Americans and the Arts” to explore the profound impact of Black artists on American culture.
Congratulations to our 7th and 8th grade Flyer who made the Volleyball teams. We are looking forward to seeing you play.
We are also looking forward to our grade-level PTA-supported community service projects. Our students received a Google form to sign up to get to know who will be attending. Parents can use the links below to sign up to volunteer or donate items.
Check out the details below regarding all the Share The Love events, where our students' actions continue to spread the love to others in our community.
Go Flyers,
Mrs. O’Donnell
Principal

Your Input on Your Child’s School: 5Essentials Survey
Dear District 34 Parents,
You can now take the 2023-2024 5Essentials Parent Survey!
(If you have children in more than one school, please take the survey for each school.)
Your input on this statewide survey -- given to parents of all students throughout the state of Illinois -- allows us to help us improve our schools for our students. As a parent, taking the survey will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness. The statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey is administered for the Illinois State Board of Education by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:
- Effective Leaders
- Collaborative Teachers
- Involved Families
- Supportive Environments
- Ambitious Instruction
Prior research in more than 400 schools shows that schools strong on at least 3 of the 5Essentials are 10 times more likely to improve student outcomes. In District 34, all District and building leaders use the results of these surveys to guide decisions. You can view a summary of the results for each school under "School Environment" in the school's Illinois Report Card.
Please click here to take the parent survey. We ask that you take the survey for each school in which you have a child. We will be pleasantly persistent in the coming weeks as we hope to reach 100% participation before the survey closes on March 29, 2024. We plan to use the results of this year's survey to give us a clear picture of our schools' climate and culture. If at least 20% of parents participate in the survey, a parent supplement report will be generated and we will share these results with the community.
Student Survey
Students in grades 4-8 also will be given the opportunity to take this survey. Per Board Policy 7:15, you have the right to review the survey questions and decide if you do not wish your child to participate. Click here for the questions. The schools will be administering the survey to students starting at the end of this month. If you do not wish your child to take the survey, please email both me and your child's principal by February 15, 2024.
Exciting Times Ahead for the Class of 2024!
There are many important events for 8th graders that will be upon us quicker than we think. Please take the time to review the link and look for future communication as the dates approach.
Graduation Pictures
We had a very successful graduation picture day.
Ordering Pictures
There is no pre-order option for graduation pictures. About 3 weeks after the original picture date, a physical paper proof of the pictures will be distributed at school for your child to bring home. Also, at that time, a digital proof will be sent to parents via email to the address listed in PowerSchool. The paper and email proof will contain a Ticket Code and information to view photos taken by Color Portraits. Pictures may be ordered online at that time. If you would like to order pictures but feel that your family might not be able to afford it, please email Ms. Emily O’Connor (eoconnor@glenview34.org), and we can help arrange for the cost of your pictures to be covered.
Retake Picture Day - For students who missed the original date or want a re-take
Tuesday, February 20, has been reserved for retakes. Please mark this date on your calendar if you are not able to attend the original picture day.

District 225 Seeks Calendar Input
Glenbrook High School District 225 is launching a calendar study to assist in the development of the 2025-2026 school calendar. Potential modifications may include finishing Semester 1 before winter break and adjusting start and end dates, granted holidays, and semester lengths. The district is very interested in hearing from families whose students will be attending D225 schools in the coming years.
Please click here to provide your input to this survey by Sunday, February 5, 2024.
